JOB TITLE: 

Library Aide - Geology Library 

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION: 

Job location: The Geology Libraries is located on the main floor of the Geology Building on the west side of campus and serves UW faculty, staff, students, and the general public. 

Pay rate or range: Beginning pay for this work study position is $12.00/hr. Pay rate increases to $12.35/hr. after successful completion of first semester of work. 

JOB PURPOSE: 

Assist Geology Library staff with circulation and customer service tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Open and close the library.
  • Check in/out library materials to library users.  
  • Shelve books and maps.  
  • Data entry/computer work. 
  • Special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education: High School Diploma/GED
Experience: none
Other requirements:Must be eligible, have received and accepted work study award through Student Financial Aid for the applicable semester and/or academic year. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Ability to alphabetize.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Some knowledge of Word and Excel.

Employees learn customer service and organizational skills applicable to all future careers. Majors most related to this position are Geology and Business, but previous employees have come from a variety of majors.
