Job description

MS/HS Library Assistant
The middle school/high school library assistant will report to and work with the middle school and high school librarians to provide quality library services.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work hours are 7:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Monitors the checkout desk.
  • Shelves/maintains/repairs all library materials.
  • Processes new books and other library materials.
  • Maintains library services when the librarians are away or teaching.
  • Laminates materials for teachers.
  • Prepares class project materials as directed by librarians.
  • Handles overdue materials process.
  • Creates class reservation book at beginning of school year.
  • Assists with inventory and weeding.
  • Supports archivist with archives filing and daily newspaper scanning.
  • Manages copier use and maintenance.
  • Maintains, organizes, and orders supplies.
  • Manages conduct of library patrons.
  • Manages library lost/found.
  • Opens library daily.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Grounded in the Christian faith.
  • Knowledge of or prior library experience preferred.
  • Interest in working with young people.
  • Positive and cheerful attitude toward the school and community.
  • Clerical experience, including keyboarding and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational skills with good attention to detail.
  • Self-starter and able to work independently within the job responsibilities.
  • Self-motivated - ability to observe surroundings and take action.
  • Punctual and dependable.
  • Models a love of reading and life-long learning.
