Position Summary
The Access Services Department in the University of New Mexico College of University Libraries & Learning Sciences (CULLS) seeks motivated and highly engaged student employees interested in a challenging and dynamic customer service work environment. Library Assistants are the first point of contact most patrons have with the University Libraries system and take care of most of the day-to-day duties associated with library operations. Student positions may be based in Centennial Science & Engineering Library, the Fine Arts & Design Library, or Zimmerman Library.
Under direct supervision, Library Assistants work with University Libraries staff and student employees in a team environment to:
  • Learn and apply library and campus policies and procedures.
  • Assist student, faculty and community patrons with discovering and using a variety of library materials.
  • Help University and community patrons access library resources including circulating material, study rooms, and the Library's computing and printing environment.
  • Assist library staff with opening and/or closing University Libraries facilities and ensuring the libraries remain a welcoming and comfortable destination for UNM students, faculty, and members of the public.
  • Shelve library materials and ensure that collections are well-organized and accessible through regular stack maintenance tasks.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity for progressively independent work and increased responsibility within a collegial team environment. CULLS student employees are employed on a term basis for the current academic year. Student employees may be asked to work nights and/or weekends.   • Currently enrolled at UNM for a minimum of 6 credit hours during the normal school year.
  • Currently enrolled at UNM for a minimum of 3 credits hours during the summer semester.
