The Opportunity:
West Liberty University is seeking an energetic, strategic, and student-athlete-focused leader to serve as Head Coach of Women's Tennis. This is an exciting opportunity for a coach who is passionate about developing student-athletes, building a competitive program, and making a meaningful impact both on and off the court.
The Head Coach, Women's Tennis will lead all aspects of the program, including
program development, coaching, recruiting, scheduling, team management, and student-athlete development and retention. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the vision and culture of the program while creating an environment where student-athletes can excel academically, athletically, and personally.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Lead and develop the women's tennis program by establishing a clear vision, competitive goals, and a positive team culture.
  • Recruit and retain talented student-athletes who align with West Liberty University's academic and athletic mission.
  • Plan and conduct practices and competitions that maximize individual and team performance.
  • Oversee strength and conditioning efforts and promote the health, well-being, and development of student-athletes.
  • Manage scheduling, travel, competition preparation, and other day-to-day operational aspects of the program.
  • Mentor and support student-athletes, fostering an environment built on accountability, teamwork, personal growth, and academic success.
  • Build relationships across campus and within the community while serving as a positive representative of West Liberty University.
  • Develop and implement program strategies that support long-term growth and competitive success.

This position is ideal for a coach who thrives on building, leading, and creating opportunities for student-athletes to succeed. The Head Coach will work with a high degree of independence, using sound judgment to prioritize objectives, solve problems, and respond effectively to the evolving needs of the program.
Working within established university policies and objectives, the Head Coach will have the flexibility to organize and manage the program in ways that best support student-athletes and team success. The role requires strong organizational skills, initiative, strategic thinking, and the ability to make thoughtful decisions in both routine and non-routine situations.

Education & Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field
  • At least 1 year of experience coaching in an athletic program relevant to the area of assignment in high school, junior college.
  • Collegiate Coaching is preferred

Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal communication and listening skills, with the ability to develop reports.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking abilities, with the capacity to analyze and resolve issues.
  • Possess a proactive approach to responsibilities, managing/leading others.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and priorities in a timely manner.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
