Position Level: Non-exempt

Reports To: Shift Supervisor

Position Summary: The Bindery Operator must be able to set up and operate one of the saddle stitchers or perfect binders. An individual fulfilling this role must also possess proven leadership, administrative, and people skills. This position requires patience and willingness to handle and complete tasks in a timely manner. As a Bindery Operator, the equipment that will be used are MBO Folders, Perfecta Cutters, Rollem, Automated Shrink Wrapper, and Foot Stitchers. It is essential that operators produce high-quality, detailed work based on established guidelines and procedures – precision is a must with consistent output.


** 3+ years of experience strongly preferred.


Essential Job Functions (include but are not limited to):

  • Meet with supervisor daily for schedule, job progress, and other tasks
  • Read job tickets and properly document both counts of product and times that job was produced into the shop floor data system
  • Machine set up and operation:
  • Set up and fine tuning of pockets to ensure minimal drops and stops during operation
  • Set and monitor machine calipers to ensure quality of finished product
  • Set up, adjust and repair stitcher heads as needed for smooth and trouble free operation
  • Change and adjust trimmer knives
  • Inspect working parts and be able to recognize those that need replacement
  • Source correct materials for job according to job ticket
  • Constantly monitor quality of finished product
  • Be responsible for general maintenance and lubrication of machine
  • Assist with housekeeping in the bindery area
  • Be thoroughly familiar with all areas of job finishing sheet
  • Follow all required safety procedures such as: PPE's, Ergonomics, Chemical Hazards, etc. Performs job in a manner that protects the health and safety of all employees
  • Maintain production charts and records
  • Train new employees
  • Give direction to machine crew through production and downtime
  • Provide leadership as required
  • Provide input to supervisor for evaluations
  • Follows all company policies and procedures
  • Complete and demonstrate a full understanding of ongoing training concepts and applications

Physical requirements:

  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Work Environment:

  • Primarily indoors, controlled temperature environment
  • While performing in this environment the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration
  • Ability to work in a plant work environment with a variation of noise levels to include high to moderate noise due to hand tools, machinery, heavy equipment, forklift, crane, hoist, pallet jack, alarms, and general conversations
  • This position will be working with bindery equipment on a production floor with other machinery
  • Ability to work at a consistent pace
  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate in a professional manner
  • Sustains housekeeping standards in accordance with appearance guidelines

  • Immediately report incidents involving injury, illness, property, or equipment damage

  • Ability to use and operate hand tools, power tools, and other equipment required for work safely and effectively
