Job description

Proofreader

The Proofreader is a member of the Editorial team within the Quality department. They are primarily responsible for reviewing copy and content verification for client digital properties, including websites, iPad applications, emails, banner ads, and RFPs, using approved assets, such as comparables and style guides. Proofreaders investigate copy inconsistencies, research and apply best practices, and recognize and report discrepancies as a team. Proofreaders collaborate with QA and other Editorial team members to ensure deadlines for both client and internal projects are strictly met. Proofreaders also review internal documentation (guides, reference material, training material, etc.), to help ensure Quality department documentation is current and correct.

This is a hybrid role and requires 3 days a week in our Chicago Office. The salary for this role is 50-60K. This is a bilingual Spanish role - must be able to read, write, speak, and proofread in Spanish.

Sample of day-to-day duties, not limited to:

  • Conduct proofreading reviews
  • Create and follow review test plans
  • Communicate with members of the Quality team regarding project milestones and issues
  • Communicate with Project Managers to ensure projects are completed on time
  • Test and resolve issues logged in Jira from project work

Responsibilities:

  • Proof content against provided assets, marking errors in copy, style, and font usage
  • Ensure correct copyright/trademark usage and consistency of legal disclaimers
  • Follow strict brand guidelines
  • Exercise excellent, detail-oriented organizational and communication skills
  • Respectfully work with other disciplines in an Agile-oriented environment
  • Ensure project deadlines are met and exhibit clear, consistent communication when reporting project statuses, with advanced notice, if projects deviate from expectations
  • Update and maintain proofreading documentation, including slip sheets, guidelines, and decks
  • Collaborate with other Quality disciplines, ensuring team-wide understanding of processes and day-to-day operations
  • Participate in weekly roundtable meetings with the Editorial team

Qualifications:

  • College degree preferred, but not required
  • Success in fast-paced environments with competing project deadlines
  • Understanding of standard grammatical style guides (Chicago Manual of Style, AP, MLA, etc.). Understanding of the AMA style guide is a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office Applications, and Google Workspace applications
  • Project/issue tracking system experience (Jira preferred)
  • Familiarity with basic HTML/CSS and website structure
  • Adobe InDesign and Photoshop a plus
  • Pharma and/or healthcare industry experience a plus
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and proofread in Spanish
