Job description

Grand Rapids, Michigan, law firm seeks a full-time, experienced 5 years minimum a must legal assistant with a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Transcription of digital dictation;
  • Preparation of legal documents, including pleadings, discovery, motions, and pre-trial pleadings;
  • Prepare and file documents electronically with state and federal courts;
  • Maintain professional interactions with clients in person, via telephone and/or e-mail;
  • Manage attorney calendars, including hearing dates, court deadlines, deposition dates, and meetings/appointments;
  • Schedule hearing dates, attorney meetings, and deposition dates;
  • File, mail, scan, and fax documents; and
  • Perform other general administrative tasks as assigned.

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong work ethic
  • Self-motivated
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to attorney needs
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook/Calendar;
  • Proficiency with electronic filing systems
  • Knowledge of law firm office procedures and legal terminology
  • Possess strong typing and proofreading ability
  • Possess strong multitasking ability as well as to prioritize such tasks; and
  • Speech and writing ability that permits respectful, professional communication
  • Defense litigation, Municipality and Family law experience a plus.

Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Hours: Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
