Position Purpose:
The purpose of the Branch Intern role at the Company is to provide upcoming graduates with immersive, hands-on learning experience in the facets of our distribution center's culture, service, sales, and operations, with a focus on the distribution of roofing materials and building commodities. Specifically, the intern will participate in daily operations, engage in customer service, perform tasks related to product handling, and shadow sales meetings, more efficiently nurturing their profound developmental knowledge in Business, Industrial Distribution, Supply Chain, Operations, Sales or Management to potentially join the Company's full-time Management Trainee Program post-graduation. The successful candidate is expected to exhibit exemplary work ethics, teamwork, leadership, and academic performance, and is dedicated to committing over 10 weeks on-site, sharing their project insights with company executives during their program culmination, showcasing their improved industrial distribution skills, advanced business strategies, heightened organization and time management capabilities, and their increased aptitude for this line of profession.
Key Responsibilities:
Actively contribute to the daily operations of a high-profile, multi-million-dollar distribution center under the guidance of the Branch Manager and his team.
Master all the key functions of the distribution center, including receiving product, moving product within the warehouse, loading trucks, dispatch, delivery, customer service via phone, order entry, and shadowing an experienced Territory Manager for outside sales.
Lead crucial projects of strategic importance, with expected outcomes presented to executive leadership.
Demonstrate a strong commitment to internal growth through intensive learning and engagement in a 10 to 12-week internship, possibly leading to a full-time position in the Company's Management Trainee Program post-graduation.
Commit to a corporate visit for a three-day period, during which the intern should present their project outcomes to the senior leadership team.
Be prepared to contribute in a physical capacity such as occasional lifting of building materials, showcasing a balance of physical prowess and intellectual acumen.
Utilize strong computer proficiency, strategic thinking, exceptional organizational and time management skills in driving increased efficiency and impact.
Ensure legal work authorization without need for sponsorship, hold a valid driver's license, maintain an excellent driving record, and pass background checks and a pre-employment drug test as an assurance of legal and safety compliance.
Direct Manager Direct Reports:
The Branch Intern at the Company will fall under the guidance and supervision of the Branch Manager. Within the structure of the internship, the Branch Manager operates as the direct manager for the intern, ensuring adequate training and monitoring of progress throughout the duration of the summer internship program.
The intern will be required to work closely with the Branch Manager and their team, executing various tasks throughout the operations of the multi-million-dollar distribution center. Additionally, the Emerging Talent team will meet regularly with the intern to assess their development and provide necessary guidance.
For the constraint of the internship period, the Branch Intern will not have direct reports. Instead, the intern's role will be largely learning-focused, gaining hands-on experience in all aspects of operating a distribution center in preparation for potential post-graduate opportunities within the Company.
Travel Requirements:
The Branch Intern at the Company is required to embark on occasional travel, primarily for a mandated 3-day visit to the corporate headquarters to present project outcomes, throughout their summer internship period; the frequency and nature of travel beyond this remains minimal to none.
Physical Requirements:
The Branch Intern is based in one of our warehouses and requires the ability to engage in a variety of physical activities typical of an office-based and hands-on operational environment. These activities may include, but are not limited to, prolonged periods of sitting or standing, frequent use of hands and fingers for tasks such as typing and handling materials, and the ability to communicate effectively in a professional setting .
Interns may be asked to move materials or equipment up to 25 pounds as part of their daily work. Manual dexterity is needed for typing and other office tasks such as filing. Vision or hearing aids may be necessary to fulfill the requirements of this position if the intern has any impairments.
It's critical to note that these physical requirements should not deter any interested individual from applying; reasonable accommodations will be granted in concordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). If selected for an interview, please inform us in advance of any accommodations necessary to perform the essential functions of this internship.
At the Company, we appreciate and value an inclusive workforce and we are committed to making all employment decisions based on merit, potential, and individual qualifications. We remain steadfast in our commitment to the principles of equal employment opportunity.
Working Conditions:
At the Company, the working conditions ensure an enriching, yet challenging environment, designed to provide our Branch Interns with a comprehensive exposure to real-time business operations. During your tenure, you will primarily operate in a dynamic office setting located within our local distribution centers. A hybrid working model with limited remote working possibilities may be offered, subject to company policies and the nature of specific tasks.
Expect your days to be immersed in a highly collaborative, deadline-driven, and fast-paced atmosphere. Your role will encourage you to interact closely with the warehouse, the sales team, and senior management that might require you to relocate, ensuring your time with us offers a diversified learning experience. Building relationships, acquiring industry knowledge, and honing your problem-solving skills are integral aspects in this rapidly evolving enterprise environment.
Furthermore, as part of the team, you will be expected to adhere to safety regulations, handle physical work involving building materials, and may need to operate in a robust warehouse environment, ensuring ample on-ground exposure. As we strive to balance hands-on learning with employee well-being, you will be provided with support throughout your internship to ensure a rewarding and productive experience at the Company.
