Job Description
SOCOTEC is seeking an engineering or construction professional to join our team of building commissioning engineers in NYC. The ideal candidate has experience in the construction and/or design fields, can manage multiple projects, and has a passion for enhancing the built environment.
  • Execute Commissioning (Cx), Retro-Commissioning (RCx), Measurement and Verification (M&V) and inspection services.
  • Review and assist in the development of Cx documents such as Owner's Project Requirements (OPR) and Bases of Design (BOD) to define owner needs.
  • Review design documents such as mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) drawings and specifications (specs) to preserve energy efficiency and ensure successful building operation.
  • Prepare Cx documents such as Prefunctional Checklists (PFC's) and Functional Performance Tests (FPT's) for use in field.
  • Conduct periodic field visits to observe equipment installation progress/quality.
  • Witness and direct FPT's of MEP equipment/systems on site to verify the proper installation of new or relocated HVAC equipment.
  • Collect data for energy conservation analysis using jobsite observation, field inspection, and/or submetering.
  • Inspect or monitor energy systems to determine energy use or potential energy savings.
  • Prepare energy-related project reports or related documentation.
  • Prepare Cx documents such as Current Facility Requirements and Operation and Maintenance (O&M + O&M) plans, Systems Manuals, Ongoing Commissioning (OCx) plans, and Cx Summary Reports.
  • Manage projects from inception through close-out.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by your supervisor or manager.

Qualifications
  • Minimum requirement: Bachelor's degree major in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering, or foreign degree equivalent, plus 2 years of training in Mechanical System, building design and construction. Additionally, a successful candidate shall have all or most of the following:
  • Extensive knowledge of high-performance building technologies and strategies related to mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems.
  • At least 7+ years of experience in the building industry or environmental sciences.
  • 5+ years of familiarity with Commissioning Process as defined by ASHRAE Std 202-2018 and Guideline 0-2019.
  • Familiarity with NYC Energy Code Cx requirements
  • Familiarity with NYC Building Codes
  • Familiarity with NYC Energy Code
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE standards and guidelines
  • Familiarity with LEED standards
  • Experience reviewing and analyzing complex design and construction documents.
  • Experience in equipment startup, Test & Balance processes, and Functional Testing.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with keen attention to detail.
  • High technical ability including experience with Cx platforms (BlueRithm, Cx Alloy), construction software packages (Bluebeam, Procore, Building Management Systems), and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience using simple test equipment (IR thermometers, light meters, CO2 meters, IR cameras, etc.)
  • Ability to manage own schedule and take initiative.
  • Experience in MEP/renewable energy design, evaluation, construction, building operations, testing and/or verification (preferred).
  • Licensed PE, CxA, LEED AP Green Associate or LEED AP specialty credential (preferred).
