Job description

About Williamsburg Learning
Williamsburg Learning Academy is a full-time online program serving students in grades 6-12, designed to provide a flexible, high-quality education centered on purpose, leadership, and meaningful growth. As part of the Williamsburg Learning network, it delivers an award-winning curriculum used by partner schools nationwide, including tuition-free public school options in states like Utah.
Learning is both rigorous and flexible. Students engage in live, mentor-led classes alongside independent coursework, allowing them to take ownership of their education while receiving consistent guidance. Mentors do more than teach-they help students think critically, engage in discussion, and develop clarity in their ideas.
The program emphasizes learning how to think, not what to think, using discussion-based instruction, classic texts, and engaging content that fosters curiosity and intellectual growth. This is paired with a strong focus on leadership and personal development.
A defining feature of the experience is the balance between online learning and real-world connection. Through in-person "Adventures" and community experiences, students build relationships, explore new environments, and apply their learning in meaningful ways.
Everything is rooted in the mission to prepare promising students for meaningful lives as principled leaders-equipping them to become thoughtful, capable contributors both in school and beyond.
Position Summary
Williamsburg Adventures (WAD) is seeking leadership and outdoor enthusiasts to serve as mentors to students in Outdoor and Leadership Adventures courses within specifically assigned regions throughout the state.
The Outdoor Adventures course is an in-person program for students in grades 6-12. Participants earn PE credit while engaging in activities such as rock climbing, hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, survival skills, first aid training, outdoor games, and more.
The Leadership Adventures course focuses on developing students' leadership skills while they earn elective leadership credit. Experiences may include museum visits, college tours, field trips, service projects, simulations, and other hands-on leadership activities designed to build confidence and character.
Essential Duties (Top 5 Roles)
1. Facilitate Transformational Learning Experiences
  • Design and lead meaningful, hands-on adventures aligned with the Williamsburg model
  • Incorporate intentional discussions, reflection, and student touchpoints (1:1 and group processing)
  • Provide context and purpose for each adventure experience

  • Coordinate logistics, vendors, facilities, and payments (company card provided)
  • Manage semester budgets and submit expenses in a timely manner
  • Arrive 30 minutes prior to events and serve as the on-site leader
  • Supervise and provide direction to Guides and volunteers

3. Ensure Student Safety
  • Maintain responsibility for student safety from drop-off to pick-up
  • Carry first-aid supplies and required medical documentation
  • Take attendance and monitor student whereabouts
  • Document and report safety incidents appropriately

4. Communicate Effectively
  • Communicate adventure details to students, parents, and team members
  • Coordinate regularly with the Adventures State Coordinator
  • Share post-event updates and photos

5. Manage Academic & Compliance Responsibilities (When Applicable)
  • Set up and manage courses in Canvas
  • Ensure waivers and medical forms are completed prior to participation
  • Track attendance and submit grades in Canvas and SIS
