Job description

Description

Position Overview

The Executive Project Internship is a high-level developmental role designed for individuals seeking a deep dive into nonprofit management, resident camping, and outdoor education. Unlike traditional counselor roles, this position is project-focused, allowing the intern to own specific outcomes that directly impact the sustainability and growth of YMCA Camp Classen.

Under the direct mentorship of the Executive Director, the intern will bridge the gap between "boots-on-the-ground" camp operations and executive-level strategy.

Key Learning Domains

Depending on the assigned project, the intern will gain measurable experience in:

  • Nonprofit Management: Understanding the "business" of camp, including Board relations and ACA accreditation standards.
  • Fundraising & Development: Supporting the ongoing capital campaign and donor stewardship.
  • Marketing & Communication: Storytelling and digital outreach to drive enrollment and alumni engagement.
  • Program Development: Designing curriculum for outdoor education or resident summer programs.
  • Operations & Logistics: Learning the mechanics of a large-scale resident facility.
Project Scope & Responsibilities
  • Outcome Delivery: Execute a primary project with clearly defined milestones (e.g., "Develop a 3-year alumni engagement plan" or "Audit and update the Outdoor Education curriculum").
  • Strategic Reporting: Participate in weekly 1-on-1 meetings with the Executive Director to track progress and refine objectives.
  • On-Site Presence: While much of the work may be completed remotely, the intern will be required to spend designated time at Camp Classen in Davis, OK, for site-specific data collection, events, or program implementation.
  • Milestone Tracking: Adhere to a strict timeline with a defined start and end date, ensuring all deliverables are met before the conclusion of the internship.

Requirements

  • A strong desire to lead within the YMCA movement or the camping industry.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a remote capacity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Previous experience in summer camp settings or outdoor education (preferred).
  • Ability to travel to Davis, Oklahoma as project needs dictate.
Compensation & Hours
  • Pay: This is a paid internship at a pay rate of $15.00 per hour.
  • Hours: Total hours per week will be negotiated upfront based on the complexity of the assigned project and the intern's availability.

Term: Fixed-term contract with specific start and end dates.
