Certificated Staff Member - Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant
Position Purpose
The Learning Disabilities Teacher-Consultant (LDTC) serves as a highly specialized member of the Child Study Team, providing expert evaluation, consultation, and instructional guidance to support students with disabilities and learning differences. Under the direction of the Director of Special Services, the LDTC is responsible for conducting comprehensive educational assessments, interpreting evaluation data, and collaborating with multidisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized programs that address the unique academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students.
The LDTC plays a critical role in ensuring that all students receive a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE), in full compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), New Jersey Administrative Code (N.J.A.C. 6A:14), and all applicable state and federal regulations. In this capacity, the LDTC serves as a resource and advocate for students, families, educators, and administrators, fostering a collaborative and inclusive school community that promotes equity, access, and student success.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
2. Valid New Jersey Educational Certificate with Learning Disabilities Specialist endorsement.
3. Minimum of three years teaching experience.
4. Must have demonstrated knowledge of laws and regulations governing special education.
5. Ability to work effectively with staff, parents, community members, and students to maintain and strengthen sound human relations for the improvement of the school program.
6. Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously in a multicultural, diverse community.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:
1. Review case histories of all referrals and present diagnostic evaluation of such referrals to the principal.
2. Observe referred students' performance in the classroom and other school settings.
3. Conduct assessments to determine reading, arithmetic, spelling and general achievement learning preferences and other areas with reference to the referred student.
4. Prepare I.E.P.s for classified students.
5. Serve as a contributing member of the building Child Study Team.
6. Assume case management responsibilities, including pupil placement and evaluation of such placements.
7. Assist special education teachers in strategies geared to improving the instruction of classified students.
8. Conduct home visits for early interventions.
9. Conduct staff in-service programs and demonstration lessons.
10. Maintain all records and data in a manner consistent with N.J.A.C.6A:14.
1. Perform all aspects of the position in accordance with New Jersey Administrative Code and policies of the Board of Education.
12. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct.
13. Fulfill all pertinent responsibilities required by local, state, and federal authorities.
14. Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
15. Participate in in-service training programs as directed.
16. Strive to improve professional competence.
17. Implement the professional improvement plans as specified in the observation and/or evaluation reports.
18. Perform, as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee, additional or alternate duties which are within the scope of employment and certification.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
