Job Description Summary
Oversees the operation and strategic development of the learning management system and distance education technologies. Works closely with faculty and academic leaders to ensure these systems enhance teaching and learning. Leads roadmap, budgeting, vendor partnerships, and change readiness so these tools reliably support teaching, learning, accessibility, and student success. Supervises LMS & Distance Learning team, setting clear priorities, coordinating work, and ensuring the team has the resources and support to perform at a high level.
Duties
1. Leads team operations and professional growth through coaching, feedback, and clear expectations; translates learning-technology strategy into team goals that support academic priorities; ensures accountability and helps define standards and practices that improve service quality and student outcomes.
2. Sets the multi-year roadmap for the LMS and approved learning tools, aligned with academic goals, accessibility, privacy, and risk posture.
3. Owns and leads budget development and management for LMS and related technologies. Oversees the intake and prioritization of projects, guiding efforts from pilot to full rollout. Leads the development, negotiation and renewal of RFPs, SOWs, SLAs for LMS and related technologies.
4. Defines institutional standards (templates, minimum course expectations, data/identity guardrails) and sponsors their rollout. Oversees release/change readiness: sequences changes, sets go/no-go criteria and ensures faculty-facing communications and training land on time. Aligns distance-learning practices across all offerings to a single set of standards and support pathways, retiring legacy splits that create inconsistency.
5. Oversees vendor and SLA performance for learning platforms by setting expectations and KPIs, reviewing reports and escalations, and negotiating terms to align outcomes with academic and risk priorities; ensures every escalated issue has an owner, target date, and closure note, tracks progress through to resolution, communicates outcomes back to the original reporter, and monitors peer-institution advisories/known-issue trackers to coordinate proactive checks and mitigations.
6. Reviews proposed integrations and external tools for fit, compliance, interoperability, and total cost of ownership; chairs the intake/approval process with clear criteria and turnaround SLAs.
7. Coordinates disaster recovery and business continuity expectations for learning platforms (Recovery Point Objective and Recovery Time Objective targets, tabletop cadence) and verifies execution by platform administration and maintains external awareness (consortia, vendor roadmaps, peer benchmarks) and brings forward recommendations for timely adoption or risk mitigation.
8. Contributes to the College Vision, Mission, Values, and RISE statement.
9. Supports workforce diversity in all its aspects.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements (Applicant must meet all of the minimum requirements)
1. Bachelor's degree
2. Four years of full-time or equivalent work experience in the administration of a learning management system (LMS).
3. Experience supporting faculty in the design and troubleshooting of online/hybrid courses or similar experience.
4. Experience working across multiple groups of stakeholders to align goals.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Master's degree.
2. Experience working in Canvas LMS.
3. Experience working in Moodle LMS.
4. Experience transitioning from one LMS to another LMS.
5. Experience with web accessibility.
6. Proficiency in a foreign language such as Spanish, an East Slavic language, and/or American Sign Language.
