The Director of Learning and Development oversees enterprise-wide learning and development business functions that actively source, design and implement effective methods for enhancing performance and achieving company goals through continuous training and education. This role leads strategy and execution across facilitation, instructional design, performance improvement and job-specific skills training, including HMS-specific training initiatives, and operates with a high degree of independence in support of organizational priorities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Assesses company performance analytics for insight and researches up to date learning and development methodology and technology. Creates strategic learning and development business plans based on this research to achieve company goals, close performance gaps and maximize the effectiveness of employees across the enterprise.
  • Consults with business partners to identify learning and development opportunities tied to organizational needs or goals. Creates or sources strategic programs and initiatives to meet these needs and oversees the teams responsible for the creation, deployment and measurement of the solutions , including HMS-specific job skills training. Ensures client satisfaction, monitors impact and adjusts plans as necessary.
  • Develops, mentors and supports senior managers and other exempt team members across the United States and Mexico who oversee specific business functions, and monitors the performance of their teams and associated initiatives. Makes independent hiring, performance and financial decisions to support business objectives.
  • Designs, facilitates and/or manages advanced or specialized training courses or curricula focused on the continuous improvement of organizational leaders and high-potential talent, as well as the achievement of strategic business initiatives.
  • Performs administrative and operational leadership duties including writing reports and proposals, creating and managing learning and development budgets, overseeing vendor management, monitoring and prioritizing resource usage, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and representing the learning and development function in partner and client meetings.
  • Supervises senior managers directly and oversees a team that is throughout the US and Mexico. Makes independent hiring, performance and financial decisions.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS in education, psychology, human resources, business or related field required. Master degree desired.
  • 7+ years of experience in a leadership role within hospitality, service industry, learning and development, training or educational business function.
  • Strong strategic planning skills with the ability to align learning and development initiatives to enterprise goals and business priorities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people development capabilities, with experience coaching, mentoring and developing leaders and exempt team members.
  • Proven ability to build partnerships and exercise cross-functional influence across departments, levels and geographic locations.
  • Excellent facilitation and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively engage audiences at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong knowledge of instructional design principles, adult learning concepts and training delivery methods.
  • Ability to analyze data and performance metrics to identify gaps, measure effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
  • Experience managing budgets and allocating resources to support learning and development strategies and priorities.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead multiple initiatives, meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated change management capability, with the ability to lead learning strategies that support organizational transformation and adoption.
