MAJOR DUTIES:ย 

Analyze training requirements specific to customer needs. ย Research, write and teach and/or source training courses related to identifiable needs. ย Operate scheduled classes within the Training Centre and at customer sites.ย 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:ย 

Maintain training database, including evaluation, certification and tracking of ATS customer trainees.ย 

Assist in the development of technical curriculum, such as student course books, in the area of Automation Systems, Safety, I.S.O., and as-needed training for ATS customers.ย 

Maintain, execute and develop existing training procedures and apply those procedures to support production schedules while meeting training schedules.ย 

Assist in the integration of support manuals with that of training material and verify the delivery of the information to ATS customers.ย 

Maintain electronic reporting of the operation of the training system.ย 

Develop and conduct programs to train ATS customers in equipment installation, programming, safety, maintenance and repair of custom machinery and equipment such as robots and programmable controllers, following manuals, specifications, blueprints and schematics using hand tools, measuring instruments and test equipment.ย 

Confer with management, other ATS resources and customers to determine training objectives. ย 

Write training program, including training outline, manuals, handouts and presentation materials.ย 

Schedule classes based on equipment and customer availability.ย 

Demonstrate procedures being taught.ย 

Observe trainees in both classroom and during hands-on activities to ensure good knowledge transfer and safety and answers trainees' questions.ย 

Create and administer, where necessary, written or practical exams.ย 

Assist in the operation of a technical training centre at ATS and other locations as needed.ย 

Upgrade personal knowledge of automation components and devices as needed.ย 

Prepare training quotations for customers.ย 

Provide monthly reports detailing previous months' activities. ย 

Be able to be on call on a rotational basis.ย 

May be involved in service activities when necessary. ย ย 

Perform other duties as specified by the Manager, Customer Training and Parts.ย 

Some travel may be required in delivering customer training.ย 

Occasional overtime and weekend work is expected.ย 

Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.ย 

Work in compliance with divisional health, safety and environmental procedures.ย 

Refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through lockout-tagout methods.ย 

Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts. ย 

Report defect in any equipment or protective device.ย 

Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned tasks.ย 

Attend all required health, safety and environmental training.ย 

Report any accidents/incidents to supervisor.ย 

Assist in investigating accidents/incidents.ย 

Refrain from engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct.ย 

Qualifications

Education:ย 

Three-year college diploma in electrical or automation engineering technology, or successful completion of a skilled trades apprenticeship as a Machine Builder or Industrial Electrician or equivalent education and experience. ย Formal PLC training would be an asset.ย 

Experience:ย 

Preference will be given to applicants who have a minimum two years experience in the assembly, repair or service of automation machines or equipment. ย Must be able to work in a multi-disciplined engineering environment. ย Good mechanical aptitude required. ย Familiar with word processing, basic CAD, and PC's. Excellent communication, teamwork and presentation skills and the ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment are required. ย Experience in training or program development would be an asset.ย
