Job description

COMPANY DESCRIPTION

We are a non-profit Head Start organization that offers preschool, health, and social services to children and families who encounter life's challenges and need a hand up. With Early Learning Essentials you can help children facing social, emotional, and/or economic disadvantages to reach their highest potential and prepare for lifelong success.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position provides classroom coverage when teachers are absent in various locations depending on agency need, or a teacher is on extended leave of absence, or in an open teaching position until position is filled in specific locations. Candidate must be flexible, and available to work different daytime and weekday shifts or at different locations within Early Learning Essentials. from one day to the next. While on the job, responsible for instruction, supervision, and provision of appropriate learning activities of all enrolled children in assigned classroom(s). Delivers comprehensive educational services to all Head Start children, including those with Individualized Education Plans (IEP), behavioral support or health plans and English language learners, helping children develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally in a developmentally appropriate manner, toward the overall goal of social competence and school readiness, as outlined in the Head Start Performance Standards, the 2007 Improving Head Start for School Readiness Act and Early Learning Essentials.'s policies and procedures. Ensures services support the agency's school readiness plan. This position is not eligible for telecommuting as it is front-line work in nature working face-to-face with children and families.
Position is 178-185 days; a typical work week may be Monday - Friday with a minimum of 40 hours per week. Some evening work may be required to attend scheduled parent meetings and parent teacher conferences. Requires use of own vehicle to conduct business.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) from a recognized institution
OR
2. Associates degree in:
  • Child Development or Early Childhood Education (ECE)
  • Or a related field (as determined by the agency) with equivalent coursework (to a major relating to ECE and experience teaching preschool children) as follows:
    • 3 qualified classes in ECE with 3 years experience teaching preschool children
    • 4 qualified classes in ECE with 2 years experience teaching preschool children
    • 5 qualified classes in ECE with 1 years experience teaching preschool children

3. Official or unofficial transcript which shows the award or confer date of the degree must be attached to the employment application.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) from a recognized institution
OR
2. Bachelor's degree in:
  • Child Development or Early Childhood Education (ECE)
  • Or a related field (as determined by the agency) with equivalent coursework (to a major relating to ECE and experience teaching preschool children) as follows:
    • 3 qualified classes in ECE with 3 years experience teaching preschool children
    • 4 qualified classes in ECE with 2 years experience teaching preschool children
    • 5 qualified classes in ECE with 1 years experience teaching preschool children

3. Experience working with preschool children in an Early Childhood Education setting or preschool labwork leading to an ECE degree from a recognized institution.
4. Bilingual Spanish-speaking is desirable and may be required depending on location.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Solid understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practices for preschoolers.
  • Ability to adapt to new and changing working environment and locations.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and to develop solutions to problems with limited supervision
  • Must be able to travel to and from home visits (2x/year) in private vehicle; must provide a copy of state-required proof of insurance every six months
  • Ability to write and speak the English language in a proficient and professional manner to meet requirements of the job
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, parents, co-workers, community groups, and other related agencies and people
