Job description

Overview
Location: Lexington, Ky
Job Type: Full-time
Schedule:
  • 8 hour shift between 8:00am-5:00pm
  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday

Job Focus:
The Lead Teacher is responsible for providing, planning, and implementing a successful, safe and supervised educational setting which is age and developmentally appropriate. The Lead Teacher is also responsible for promoting the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of the students and encouraging parent involvement in all aspects of the program. The Lead Teacher completes daily reports, maintains student portfolios and provides on-going assessments. This position is also responsible for supervision of volunteers, assistants, aides, and or student teachers assigned to the classroom.
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
Responsibilities
  • Plan, supervise and carry out developmentally appropriate early childhood program, with consideration to the needs of individual children, with concerns for their interest, special needs and talents, individual style and pace of learning and relationship to their cultural and socioeconomic background. Prepare and post weekly lesson plans for the classroom.
  • Maintain a safe, healthy and emotionally stable environment for children
  • Maintain physical environment by keeping classroom and shared areas clean and well-maintained. Report any maintenance needs, loss of equipment, or hazard to Director promptly. Ensure that all housekeeping duties are performed daily. Spills and carpet stains must be cleaned immediately.
  • Oversee meals and snacks with the children and encourage development of sound nutritional practice.
  • Assist children in developing good habits of personal hygiene
  • Maintains records necessary for efficient running of the center-include but not limited to attendance, health checks, USDA, child assessments, anecdotes, IEP's, daily child schedule, or activity records, administering medicines, and incident/accident reports
  • Be responsive, creative, and professional in developing positive relationships with parents. Communicate frequently with parents informally, with periodic notes and verbal communications, as well as a Parent Newsletter/Calendar at least monthly
  • Be available to answer questions and provide positive feedback as well as instructional information pertaining to the growth and development of children, and participate in Parent/Teacher conferences
  • Maintains prompt hours. Notifies director and center in the event of impending absence
  • Cooperate and collaborate with all ELC staff to ensure all children's needs are met and State Regulations are followed
  • Complete required training programs, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional growth for a minimum of 15 hours; keeps abreast of current issues in early childhood education
  • Maintains an overall positive attitude about the center, representing the ELC in a positive manner to the community
  • Is flexible to change in hours or duties as necessary to maintain proper running of the center
  • Treat children, colleagues, and parents with respect and dignity
  • Be familiar with and adhere to all Kentucky State Daycare Regulations and ELC Policies and Procedures, as described in the ELC Staff Handbook.

Qualifications
Degree (Associates or above) in Early Childhood Education is preferred
CDA (Child Development Associate) certificate or equivalent with 3 years experience
Must meet requirements of city and state licensing agencies (CPR, First Aid & TB Skin test)
Must pass extensive background check'
Experience:
  • Teaching: 2 years (Preferred)
  • Childcare: 2 years (Preferred)
