Job description

Eastern Greene Schools is seeking a caring and dependable Instructional Assistant for the Early Learning Center. This position supports the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for young children.


The Instructional Assistant plays an important role in supporting daily routines, assisting with instruction, and helping meet the developmental needs of children in both infant/toddler and preschool classrooms. The ideal candidate is patient, flexible, and enjoys working as part of a collaborative team.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Must meet Indiana childcare licensing requirements for Early Learning Center staff
  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and Safe Sleep certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
  • CDA (Child Development Associate) in Infant/Toddler or Preschool (or ability to obtain upon hire)
  • Completion of required background check and pre-employment drug screening

Preferred:

  • Associateโ€™s or Bachelorโ€™s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field
  • Prior experience working with young children in a licensed childcare or early learning setting

Job Goals
  • Support the Lead Teacher in providing a safe and developmentally appropriate learning environment
  • Assist in meeting the social, emotional, and academic needs of young children
  • Promote positive interactions and a nurturing classroom atmosphere
  • Ensure compliance with all licensing and program requirements

Expectations
  • Assist with daily routines including feeding, diapering, toileting, and transitions
  • Support classroom instruction and activities under the direction of the Lead Teacher
  • Supervise children to ensure safety at all times
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and engaging classroom environment
  • Support positive behavior and model appropriate interactions
  • Communicate respectfully with staff and families as directed
  • Assist with preparation and clean-up of classroom materials and activities
  • Complete required documentation as assigned
  • Follow all health, safety, and licensing regulations
  • Demonstrate reliability, flexibility, and professionalism in a fast-paced environment
  • Be available for occasional after-school responsibilities as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Lead Teacher

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and assist young children as needed
  • Ability to sit on the floor, bend, squat, and move throughout the classroom
  • Ability to actively supervise children indoors and outdoors
