Position Summary:
The role of an academic tutor for student-athletes is pivotal in ensuring the holistic development and success of student-athletes both on and off the field. This position entails providing academic support and guidance to student-athletes to help them excel academically while balancing the demands of their athletic commitments. In addition to our tutors from the student body, we also seek non-student professionals with more specialized experience in various academic fields like Psychology, ASL, Geology, Anthropology, Economics, Spanish, and Law.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Academic Support: Provide one-on-one or group tutoring sessions to student-athletes in various subjects, including but not limited to mathematics, sciences, humanities, and languages.
  • Study Skills Development: Assist student-athletes in developing effective study habits, time management skills, and organizational strategies to enhance their academic performance.
  • Course Material Comprehension: Aid student-athletes in understanding course materials, assignments, and concepts by breaking down complex topics into manageable components.
  • Test Preparation: Assist with test preparation strategies, including practice exams, review sessions, and test-taking techniques tailored to individual learning styles.
  • Writing Assistance: Offer guidance on writing skills, including essay structure, research methods, and proofreading to help student-athletes improve their writing proficiency.
  • Academic Progress Monitoring: Track and monitor the academic progress of student-athletes, communicate regularly with academic advisors to address any concerns, and submit session reports on time.
  • Resource Referral: Connect student-athletes with additional academic resources, such as tutoring centers, writing labs, and academic workshops, to support their educational goals.
  • Compliance with NCAA Regulations: Ensure adherence to NCAA academic eligibility requirements and regulations governing academic support services for student-athletes.

Requirements
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree required in Education, Counseling, Athletic Administration, or a related field.
  • Master's degree preferred, particularly in areas such as Educational Leadership, Higher Education Administration, or a relevant academic discipline.

Experience:
  • Prior experience in tutoring, teaching, academic coaching, or academic support services, preferably at the high school or collegiate level.
  • Experience working with student-athletes or within an athletic academic support environment is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with NCAA academic eligibility standards and compliance requirements is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student populations and adapt instructional approaches to various learning styles.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills required.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during tutoring sessions and meetings.
  • Frequent use of a computer and other office equipment (e.g., keyboarding, viewing screens).
  • Ability to move between offices, classrooms, and campus facilities as needed.
  • Occasional lifting of materials up to 15-20 pounds (e.g., books, teaching resources).
  • Must be able to maintain focus and engagement during extended academic sessions.
