Summary

The Nursing Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, supporting student success, and contributing to the ongoing development and improvement of the Nursing program. This position collaborates with faculty, staff, and community partners to promote student learning, retention, and program quality while maintaining academic and professional standards.
Essential Duties or Responsibilities
The essential duties and primary responsibilities below are intended to describe the general requirements of this job and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties.
Other related duties which may be required by the Director of Nursing (duties that may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but are generally within the occupational series and responsibility level associated with the employee's class of work).
Instruction & Curriculum Development

• Assist in curriculum development and instructional advancement in the field of Nursing, both LPN and RN.
• Assess the instructional needs of students in the program and help coordinate the development of plans to address those needs.
• Teach courses as assigned, based on program need and individual expertise.
• Assist in core curriculum evaluations, assessment of institutional effectiveness, and preparation of related reports.
• Coordinate departmental textbook orders.

• Assist with the coordination of dual credit classes.

Clinical Education & Partnerships

• Maintain communication and work cooperatively with clinical instructors at off-campus instructional sites.
• Assist in obtaining qualified preceptors at each clinical facility and monitor preceptors and students at off-campus clinical locations.

Compliance & Quality Assurance

• Maintain quality assurance to ensure compliance with all required accrediting and regulatory agencies.

Faculty & Institutional Service

• Assist in the hiring of faculty or staff by serving on college search committees as needed.

Student Recruitment & Outreach

• Conduct student recruitment through information sessions and outreach efforts to promote and grow the program.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Masters, Ph.D., or Ed. D with Master's in Nursing preferred.
• Minimum of three (3) years higher education teaching experience (classroom & clinical)

Certificates, Licenses, and Regulations

• Required: Current unencumbered Illinois Registered Professional Nurse License or Eligible to be licensed in IL

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong knowledge of nursing theory, clinical practice, and current healthcare standards
• Ability to effectively teach and evaluate students in classroom, lab, and clinical settings.
• Knowledge of curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation requirements
• Strong organizational, time management, and documentation skills

Health Insurance
Blue Cross Blue Shield - 80% of the individual premium is paid by the College. Employees can add family coverage at their own cost. The effective date of insurance coverage for an employee is the first day of the month following 30 days of eligible employment. (Example: if an employee starts work February 15, his/her coverage would begin April 1. Payroll deductions for the insurance would begin March 15 and 31 as the premium is due and payable on April 1)

Delta Dental - available for minimal cost per pay period for Employee and family

VSP - available for minimal cost per pay period for Employee and family
Life Insurance
The College pays the premium for a $15,000 life insurance policy on all full-time employees.
Payroll
Paid twice a month (15th and last working day). The college encourages the use of direct deposit.
Tuition Waiver?
With written approval of the College President, the tuition and fees for SCC courses shall be waived for full-time employees, their spouses, and their dependent children under the age of 24 living in the household of the eligible employee. The books are loaned out at no charge through the SCC Bookstore.
