Job description

ICT Designer - Mission Critical

HED is looking to add an experienced team member to our talented ICT team. The ICT Designer is a seasoned leader in the design and coordination of low-voltage technology systems for complex and large-scale projects.

About HED

We are a team that is full of ideas, experience, creativity, passionate opinions, insatiable curiosity, uncompromising integrity, commitment, and skill. Our culture is about aspiration, embracing change and challenges, listening to (and learning from) each other, encouraging continual learning, and inspiring collective growth. As an inclusive, integrated architecture and engineering practice, we value the diversity of perspectives, experiences, abilities, and expertise that advance both the work we do, and the world we share.

Position Summary

With advanced technical expertise and leadership capabilities, this role drives quality, mentorship, and innovation across teams. Serving as a bridge between technical design and strategic planning, this individual champions documentation standards, client communication, and cross-discipline coordination.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead ICT design for large-scale and complex projects, developing comprehensive design packages in Revit including riser diagrams, floor plans, and device layouts.
  • Standardize modeling strategies and Revit workflows; develop and maintain BIM content and templates specific to ICT.
  • Resolve advanced modeling and system integration challenges across multiple low-voltage disciplines (structured cabling, AV, security, etc.).
  • Ensure all documentation aligns with applicable codes, project performance goals, and client expectations.
  • Author and edit technical narratives, project briefs, and documentation with minimal oversight.
  • Perform complex calculations and evaluations for ICT system performance and integration.
  • Serve as a lead participant in BIM Execution Plan development and implementation across internal and external teams.
  • Collaborate on project scoping, phasing, and resourcing; delegate tasks strategically to support team development.
  • Mentor junior designers and engineers, providing feedback and developing structured training content.
  • Represent HED in client and consultant meetings; present technical strategies and support performance-focused decision-making.
  • Guide responses to RFIs, site issues, and technical proposals, ensuring clarity and consistency across communications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Information Technology, Architectural Engineering, or related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 5-10 years of experience in technology infrastructure or low-voltage systems design within the AEC industry.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Revit; experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Deep understanding of BICSI, EIA/TIA, NEC, and related telecommunications standards and codes.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and mentorship skills.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing documentation quality and technical strategy across teams.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in writing and verbally via phone, video conferencing, and in-person.
  • Visual acuity to perform responsibilities.

Work Environment

  • We embrace a hybrid model that promotes both autonomy and collaboration, including the freedom to work from home, with regular in-office days to connect with teammates and build culture.
  • The office is a professional, open-space environment for collaborative and independent work.
