Job description

The Associate Director – Blood Collections Learning will work towards driving process excellence at the regional level of the New York Blood Center Enterprises (NYBCe). The role will provide oversight in the design and delivery of learning content that supports optimal employee learning and long-term retention of skills. 

The role will ensure training goals are correlated with Enterprise goals and harmonize the delivery of content that would include, but not be limited to, the blood collection process, optimizing customer service and leadership. Course content should employ proven instructional design, theory, and instructional technology.

The incumbent would continuously improve training in alignment with Enterprise goals for growth, ensuring NYBCe remains “best in class” within the industry. A collaborative approach will be required to identify methods for NYBCe Technical Services to capitalize on economies of scale throughout the Collections. The position will collaborate with leaders within the ECCOE as well as regional Collections, Laboratories, Information Technology, Medical and Quality/Regulatory Affairs (QRA) as well as external vendors. 

The role will also provide oversight to the Blood Collections Learning at the regional level.

This position will report to the Vice President of Enterprise Collections Center of Excellence (ECCOE).

 

Leadership:

  • Provides leadership and oversees Blood Collections Learning course development and Regional Automation Instructional Specialists.
  • Fosters a collaborative and cooperative team culture.
  • Ensures the team maintains a working knowledge of the blood collection process for all product types and the software systems and equipment used to complete the process. 
  • Develop and refine strategies to ensure efficient and effective operations including workflow processes, resource allocation, and technology utilization.
  • Mentoring your team, providing training, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Oversees staff recruitment, training, and performance management to maintain high-quality service standards.
  • Works towards meeting established budgetary and financial targets.
  • Oversee the departmental budget, expenses, FTEs, labor, and capital expenses.
  • Lead, coach, develop, and mentor staff providing oversight to Regional Blood Collections Learning. 

Blood Collections Learning – Local:

  • Ensuring opportunities for training are abundant and coordinated with Divisional needs for hiring and promotion.
  • Creates course content that supports and elevates the principles of positive Donor Engagement in all aspects of NYBCe.
  • Provides oversight in the creation of engaging and compelling course content that enhances not only retention of learned material but also retention of employees within NYBCe.
  • Synchronizes class sizes with Blood Collection Learning Instructors' ability to provide effective training.
  • Creates team and organization required to realize and maintain NYBCe’s “Blood Collections Learning Academy.”
  • Ensures instructional goals and objectives meet regulatory standards, internal and external. 
  • Maintains competencies in the most up-to-date instructional graphics, user interfaces, design theories, practice, and methods to be applied in the finished course.
  • Communicate with Collections leaders about innovative technologies and programs capable of improving student experiences. 
  • Ensures training content is coordinated with Standard Operating Procedures per Division without compromising the integrity of the curriculum.
  • Maintain competence in all Collections procedures.

Education:

  • BS or MA degree in instructional design, educational technology, or similar.

Experience:

  • 8 years’ experience in a training profession – healthcare, hospital, pharma/manufacturing is optimal.
  • 3 years’ previous experience in Instructional Design required.

License:

  • Valid driver’s license.

Travel:

  • Able and willing to travel up to 25% locally and/or within the enterprise as needed.

Location:

  • Candidates must be able to report our NYBCe location: Rye, New York.
  • Commitment to physical presence at a physical location office (e.g., our headquarters in Rye, NY, or similar) at least 3 days per week. The policy is subject to change.

Knowledge:

  • Intermediate knowledge of instructional design methodologies, multimedia learning principles, and modern learning technologies.
  • Strong technical knowledge and understanding of software systems and services.
  • Knowledge of process improvement methodologies.
  • Experience in healthcare or blood center operations.
  • Working knowledge of software and spreadsheet applications used in process mapping, process design, and workflow management (e.g., MS Excel, MS PowerPoint).
  • Experience utilizing instructional design and eLearning authoring platforms such as Articulate 360 and Synthesia AI to develop engaging digital learning content.

For applicants who will perform this position in New York City or Westchester County, the proposed annual salary is $137,000.00p/yr. to $147,000.00p/yr. For applicants who will perform this position outside of New York City or Westchester County, salary will reflect local market rates and be commensurate with the applicant’s skills, job-related knowledge, and experience.
