SeniorInstructional Designer
The Senior Instructional Design Specialist designs and develops product-focused technical training for Itron's internal employees and external customers in the electric, water, and gas utility industries. This role partners with subject matter experts and stakeholders to translate complex product knowledge into instructionally sound, accessible, and engaging learning experienceswith an emphasis on eLearning and video.
Develop product and technical training in response to requests from Product Line Management (PLM) and other stakeholders, translating product knowledge into instructionally sound learning.The Senior Instructional Designeralso helps advance the team's adoption of AI-powered tools to improve quality, scalability, and development efficiency.
Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Design learning experiences and products grounded in adult learning principles and established instructional design methodologies (e.g., ADDIE, SAM).
  • Develop custom eLearning content, including advanced actions and shared actions, using Articulate 360 (Storyline and Rise) and Adobe Captivate.
  • Interpret storyboards and collaborate with the team to create instructionally sound, visually appealing content that conveys complex material clearly.
  • Create and update technical and product training materials to support implementations across the electric, water, and gas utility industries.
  • Design and develop video training from drafted scripts and key graphic assets.
  • Ensure all learning content meets accessibility standards (WCAG / Section 508).
  • Create and maintain eLearning templates, style guides, quality processes, and publishing standards that reflect a consistent look and feel across all training materials.
  • Drive instructional design projects and deliverables, identifying effective methods to produce accurate, high-quality materials that meet critical deadlines.
  • Partner withtheteam members to gather feedback, encourage continuous improvement, andmaintainquality standards.
  • Assist with loading and managing content in the Learning Management System (Workday Learning).
  • Provide proposed plans and status reports to the manager.
  • Leverage AI-powered tools to accelerate instructional design, content creation, assessment development, storyboarding, video production, and learner support.
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging AI technologies and innovative learning solutions that improve learning effectiveness, content quality, scalability, and development efficiency while supporting business objectives.
  • Whenappropriate, apply consultative judgment toconfirm training is the right solution and suggest alternatives (job aids, documentation, or process improvements) when it is not.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience building SCORM-compliant learning and integrating content with a Learning Management System (Workday Learning preferred).
  • Advanced proficiency with Articulate 360 (Storyline and Rise) and Adobe Captivate, including coding/scripting for advanced and shared actions.
  • Experience with AI-powered content creation and productivity platforms (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Canva AI, Adobe Firefly).
  • Experience with video creation and editing tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Camtasia, Clipchamp, Vyond, or Descript.
  • Experience creating AI-generated videos, voiceovers, visual assets, and interactive learning experiences.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG / Section 508) and user experience design.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design,relatedfield, or equivalent experience (advanced degree preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience as an instructional designer.
  • 2+ years of eLearning development experience (a portfolio of work samples will be required).
  • Proficiency with Adobe Captivate, Articulate 360, or other screen-casting/authoring tools.
  • Working knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments in a deadline-driven environment.
  • A dependable team player and excellent communicator committed to quality and continuous improvement.
