We're not just a food company. We're a technology-powered, customer-obsessed team building one of the most innovative end-to-end food supply chains in the industry. From proprietary routing systems to our state-of-the-art fulfillment center, every part of our business is designed to deliver unmatched quality, convenience, and care.

It's grocery shopping reimagined - and we're just getting started.

If you're passionate about innovation, care deeply about what people eat, and want to help build the future of food, we'd love to meet you.

The Role

FreshDirect is seeking an experienced and strategic Learning & Development Manager to lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of learning initiatives across the organization. This role is responsible for driving talent development strategies that support both current business priorities and long-term organizational growth.

The Learning & Development Manager will partner closely with leaders and stakeholders at all levels to identify capability gaps, enhance employee performance, and foster a culture of continuous learning. This role will directly manage a Training Coordinator and oversee the development, coordination, and delivery of training programs, learning materials, and professional development initiatives across the organization.

Leveraging adult learning principles and best practices, the Learning & Development Manager will ensure training solutions are engaging, scalable, and aligned with FreshDirect's values, business objectives, and operational needs. From onboarding and technical skills development to leadership and professional growth programs, this role will play a critical part in building a high-performing workforce and supporting employee success.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and execute FreshDirect's enterprise Learning & Development strategy, aligning talent development initiatives with organizational priorities, workforce capabilities, and long-term business growth objectives.

  • Design and implement scalable leadership and manager development programs, including new manager onboarding, coaching skills, performance management, talent reviews, succession planning, and leadership readiness initiatives.

  • Lead the modernization of FreshDirect's learning approach through the implementation of blended learning, computer-based training (CBTs), microlearning, virtual learning, and self-directed learning pathways.

  • Leverage AI-powered learning technologies and automation tools to streamline training administration, accelerate content development, personalize learning experiences, automate reporting, and improve overall learning effectiveness.

  • Utilize generative AI tools to support instructional design, training content creation, learning asset development, assessments, job aids, videos, simulations, and learner communications while ensuring content quality, accuracy, and compliance.

  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive training processes, including enrollment management, compliance tracking, training reminders, certification renewals, learner evaluations, and reporting workflows.

  • Implement, optimize, and manage the Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring accurate training records, compliance reporting, learning analytics, and an exceptional learner experience.

  • Develop learning analytics dashboards and reporting capabilities that measure training effectiveness, learner engagement, knowledge retention, business impact, and return on investment.

  • Lead instructional design efforts by creating engaging, learner-centered content, including e-learning modules, facilitator guides, digital learning assets, performance support tools, and blended learning curricula.

  • Partner with business leaders to conduct organizational needs assessments, identify capability gaps, prioritize development initiatives, and implement targeted learning solutions.

  • Collaborate closely with the EHS Safety Training Manager to align learning strategies, compliance requirements, safety training programs, and workforce development initiatives.

  • Evaluate emerging learning technologies, AI solutions, industry trends, and best practices to continuously improve FreshDirect's learning ecosystem.

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development to the Training Coordinator while fostering a high-performing learning function.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Learning & Development, Organizational Development, Education, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of progressive Learning & Development experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership or manager-level role.

  • Experience designing and implementing leadership development, manager effectiveness, and organizational capability programs.

  • Strong instructional design expertise with experience developing e-learning, CBTs, blended learning programs, and digital learning content.

  • Experience implementing and administering Learning Management Systems (LMS) and other learning technologies.

  • Knowledge of AI-enabled learning platforms, generative AI tools, automation technologies, and their application within talent development and workforce learning.

  • Experience leveraging AI and automation to improve learning operations, content development, training delivery, learner engagement, and reporting.

  • Strong analytical skills with experience using learning metrics, dashboards, and workforce data to measure effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, learning authoring tools, and digital content creation platforms.

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, influencing, project management, and stakeholder management skills.
