Job description

Position Summary:

The Wyandotte County Public Health Department is seeking a Program Coordinator for the AmeriCorps VISTA Program. AmeriCorps is a federal agency connecting individuals and organizations through service and volunteering to tackle the nation's most pressing challenges. The Unified Government has been a proud AmeriCorps grantee for more than fourteen years and operates the largest AmeriCorps VISTA program in the State of Kansas.

The Program Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day administration and coordination of the AmeriCorps VISTA Program. This position serves as the primary operational support for members and host sites by coordinating recruitment, onboarding, training, member support, compliance activities, and program communications. Working under the direction of the Program Supervisor, the Coordinator ensures consistent implementation of program policies, maintains required documentation, assists with federal reporting requirements, and provides ongoing technical assistance to members and site supervisors. The Program Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring high-quality member experiences, timely program operations, and compliance with AmeriCorps regulations while allowing the Program Supervisor to focus on strategic planning, grant administration, fiscal oversight, and program sustainability.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinate daily operations of the AmeriCorps VISTA Program.

  • Coordinate member recruitment activities, including outreach, applicant screening, interview scheduling, onboarding, and enrollment.

  • Maintain member files and program documentation to ensure compliance with AmeriCorps and Unified Government requirements.

  • Process member enrollment, exits, timesheets, housing stipends, and cost-share documentation. Coordinate orientation, onboarding, and monthly professional development activities for members.

  • Conduct regular member check-ins and provide ongoing support throughout members' service terms.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for host-site supervisors regarding day-to-day operational questions.

  • Coordinate member and host-site trainings and technical assistance.

  • Monitor member progress and assist with performance evaluations and required reporting deadlines.

  • Maintain program databases and tracking systems.

  • Assist with preparation of federal reports, grant documentation, and program performance measures.

  • Coordinate recruitment events, career fairs, volunteer fairs, and outreach activities.

  • Assist with development of promotional materials and social media highlighting member accomplishments.

  • Support implementation of program policies and standard operating procedures.

  • Assist the Program Supervisor with grant activities, monitoring, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in public administration, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Social Work, Community Development or in a related field and two years of related program experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience coordinating meetings, trainings, or events. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work independently while collaborating within a team. Valid driver's license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, or other national service experience.

Experience working with federal grants.

Experience coordinating volunteers or community programs.

Experience using databases and reporting systems.

Experience developing training materials.

Knowledge of community engagement strategies.

Experience with social media and public outreach.

Salary Range:

$27.54-$36.83/hr.
