Job description

Fast paced, national, award winning plaintiff litigation firm with a proven record of success is seeking a Bilingual (Spanish) Legal Assistant to join their growing team. The firm currently represents tens of thousands of clients in personal injury litigation, civil litigation, and mass torts including product liability, dangerous drugs and defective medical products.

The Legal Assistant will be required to undertake a variety technical and administrative duties in support of the Personal Injury paralegals, will be under the supervision of the Lead Paralegal and will work in support of all activities the office engages in. This position is full-time, onsite and based out of the firmโ€™s New York City office. Ideal candidates must be motivated, detail oriented and experienced in the legal industry.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist paralegals with managing high volume civil litigation cases, primarily involving high-value, catastrophic personal injuries.
  • Assist in the preparation and filing of legal documents.
  • Assist in drafting pleadings, notices (deposition, and otherwise), and propounding and responding to discovery.
  • Draft and process incoming and outgoing correspondence.
  • Provide administrative assistance to attorneys, including managing calendars and deadlines.
  • Act as a liaison among all parties including court or other neutrals for scheduling and sharing information.
  • Schedule, confirm and assist attorneys in preparation for depositions.
  • Prepare materials for review by expert witnesses and consultants.
  • Research case-related factual issues using in-house files and outside reference sources.
  • Assist in preparing for court proceedings.
  • Organize and maintain electronic case files within the company software/case management system (experience and knowledge of Smart Advocate software a plus); and
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum of 3 years Legal Assistant Experience, Associate Degree preferred
  • Must be Bilingual in Spanish
  • Must have exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have excellent technical, computers and software skills; proficient in Microsoft Office programs (including Outlook, Word), Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • Must have a strong understanding of legal terminology and documentation
  • Must be detail oriented, team-player, positive, energetic, kind, well-spoken with excellent customer service skills.
  • Must be able to perform well in a high level fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
  • Must have excellent organizational skills
  • Must demonstrate good ethics, judgment and maintain the confidentiality of files
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
