Lead Moderator information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Lead Moderator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Lead Moderator, you need strong experience in community management, conflict resolution, and a deep understanding of platform policies, often supported by a background in communications or digital media. Familiarity with moderation tools, content management systems, and analytics platforms is typically required. Excellent leadership, decision-making, and interpersonal skills help you effectively guide teams and foster a positive community environment. These skills ensure efficient moderation, uphold community standards, and promote healthy online interactions.

What are some common challenges faced by a Lead Moderator and how can they be effectively addressed?

Lead Moderators often encounter challenges such as handling high volumes of user reports, managing team coordination across different time zones, and ensuring consistent enforcement of community guidelines. To address these, it's important to establish clear moderation protocols, utilize moderation tools effectively, and hold regular team check-ins to align on standards and share best practices. Proactive communication with both the moderation team and larger community also helps in anticipating issues and maintaining a positive environment.

What are lead moderators?

Lead moderators are individuals responsible for overseeing and managing online communities, forums, or social media platforms. They lead a team of moderators, enforce community guidelines, resolve conflicts, and ensure that discussions remain respectful and on-topic. In addition, lead moderators often coordinate moderation strategies, train new moderators, and serve as a point of contact between the moderation team and platform administrators. Their role is crucial in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all users.

Job description

Lead Teacher โ€“ Kidizens

Location: SF Bay Area
Compensation: Starting at $42,000+, depending on experience
Benefits: Flexible schedule (outside of regular class commitments), Paid time off

About Kidizens

At Kidizens, we empower future leadersโ€”one city at a time. Our innovative, project-based educational program uses LEGOยฎ city-building framework to teach children ages 6 to 12 about government, economics, problem-solving, and civic responsibility.

We believe learning should be hands-on, imaginative, and meaningful. Through collaborative city-building projects, kids develop critical thinking, leadership, and social-emotional skills that prepare them for the real world.

The Role: Lead Teacher

Are you passionate about working with children in a creative and educational setting? Do you thrive in a dynamic, project-based learning environment filled with LEGOs and big ideas?

Weโ€™re seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Lead Teacher to facilitate our after-school and homeschool programs across various Bay Area locations (San Mateo, Menlo Park, Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, San Jose). As a Lead Teacher at Kidizens, you'll guide students through engaging civic, economic, and leadership lessons while they build their own LEGO cities. Youโ€™ll act as a mentor, moderator, and creative collaboratorโ€”helping young learners think critically and make socially responsible decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate engaging, project-based lessons using Kidizensโ€™ curriculum

  • Guide students (ages 6โ€“11) through collaborative LEGO city-building projects

  • Foster a fun, creative, and respectful classroom environment

  • Manage classroom behavior and ensure student safety

  • Communicate regularly and professionally with parents, team members, and school partners

  • Assist with marketing, community outreach, and curriculum development as needed

  • Represent Kidizens professionally and enthusiastically in the community

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree (or currently pursuing one) in Education or a related field

  • Experience working with children in a classroom, camp, or enrichment setting

  • Strong classroom and behavior management skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication

  • Basic proficiency with technology

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team

Preferred:

  • Associate degree holders with strong experience will also be considered

  • Passion for civics, leadership, and hands-on learning

  • Experience with social-emotional learning (SEL) or project-based curriculum

  • Creative, flexible, energetic, and positive personality

Who Should Apply?

We welcome applications from:

  • Educators and aspiring teachers

  • Policy-minded professionals interested in civic education

  • College students or recent graduates seeking meaningful experience in education

  • Anyone passionate about inspiring young learners through creativity, leadership, and play

Why Work at Kidizens?
