Pelton Shepherd Industries is seeking a highly skilled Lead Machine Operator with strong mechanical aptitude to support reliable, efficient, and safe production operations. This role is ideal for a hands-on technical professional who excels at troubleshooting, machine maintenance, and keeping production equipment running at peak performance.
Position Overview
The Lead Machine Operator is responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting production machinery while serving as the primary technical resource for operators on the shift. This role requires deep mechanical understanding, the ability to diagnose equipment issues quickly, and the initiative to resolve problems with minimal downtime. The position also supports operator training and promotes adherence to standard operating procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Operate, inspect, and maintain production machinery to ensure optimal performance
Diagnose mechanical issues by understanding cause-and-effect relationships within machine systems
Perform preventive maintenance, lubrication, cleaning, and component replacement
Troubleshoot breakdowns and repair machines efficiently to minimize downtime
Serve as the first point of escalation for machine-related issues on the shift
Train and mentor Machine Operators and Assistant Operators on equipment operation and mechanical fundamentals
Monitor machine efficiency and product quality; complete required production and maintenance reports
Identify worn or damaged parts and manage reporting through established inventory systems
Collaborate with maintenance, MRO, and production leadership to improve equipment reliability
Ensure SOPs, safety standards, and quality requirements are consistently followed
Required Qualifications
3โ€“5 years of hands-on machine operation or mechanical manufacturing experience
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair equipment issues independently
Strong understanding of machine components, mechanical processes, and preventive maintenance practices
Ability to interpret mechanical problems and implement effective corrective actions
Experience training or supporting other operators preferred
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure production environment
Clear communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
