Job description

Job Summary: The Lead Driver supports the Relay Program Manager in overseeing daily transportation operations while providing leadership, guidance, and support to a team of drivers. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient delivery operations, maintaining high customer service standards, and reinforcing company policies and procedures. In addition to performing driving duties, the Lead Driver serves as a frontline resource for drivers, assisting with training, issue resolution, and operational coordination. Work Schedule:
This position typically works a 5-day schedule; however, operations run 7 days per week. Evening, early morning, and weekend work may be required. Pay Range:

$25.48-$32.25/HR DOE

This position qualifies for the Loyalty Incentive Program bonus paid quarterly in the amount of $2 per hour worked not including PTO or holiday pay.

In compliance with Hawaii pay transparency expectations, the posted range reflects the anticipated compensation for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and internal equity.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Support

  • Provide day-to-day guidance and support to drivers to ensure safe and efficient operations
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new drivers, including company policies and safety procedures
  • Reinforce compliance with company policies, including the Driver Corrective Action Plan
  • Serve as a point of contact for driver questions, issues, and escalation needs

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to all DOT, FMCSA, and company safety regulations
  • Promote safe driving practices, including compliance with speed limits and traffic laws
  • Report and document accidents, incidents, and safety concerns promptly
  • Monitor driver performance and address safety or compliance issues as needed

Operations & Coordination

  • Communicate with dispatch regarding routes, delays, and operational updates
  • Support route coverage and scheduling to ensure timely pickups and deliveries
  • Ensure proper loading, unloading, and securement of cargo
  • Maintain familiarity with assigned routes and service requirements

Customer Service

  • Provide timely and professional communication with customers, including updates on service impacts
  • Deliver a high level of internal and external customer service
  • Hiring of new drivers, interviewing, D&A screening, badging, and onboarding paperwork
  • Fleet maintenance

Administrative & Support Functions

  • Assist with hiring processes, including interviewing and onboarding coordination
  • Support drug and alcohol (D&A) testing coordination and compliance requirements
  • Assist with driver badging and required documentation
  • Coordinate reporting of vehicle maintenance needs and support fleet readiness
  • Maintain accurate records and required operational documentation
Qualifications:
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license (CDL preferred)
  • Minimum of 2+ years of commercial driving experience
  • Driving record that meets companu7 and regulatory standards
  • Ability to meet DOT medical certification requirements
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead, coach, and support a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, email)
  • Previous lead or supervisory experience
  • Experience in logistics, transportation, or final-mile delivery operations
  • Familiarity with telematics systems (e.g. Samsara)
  • Experience working in a time-sensitive or high-volume delivery environment
  • Must pass drug screening and background checks, which include employer, customer, and/or SIDA background checks
Physical Requirements:

Frequent sitting for prolonged periods of time, stepping in and out of tractor cabs, exposure to vehicle vibration and operational environments. Ability to lift and move items up to 50lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to work in varying weather and lighting conditions
