What is an LCDC internship?

An LCDC internship is a supervised practical training experience required for individuals seeking to become Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors (LCDC). During the internship, candidates gain hands-on experience working with clients who have substance use disorders in approved settings, such as treatment centers or community health organizations. Interns are mentored by licensed professionals and complete a set number of hours performing counseling-related duties. This internship is a crucial step in learning the skills and ethics needed to become a qualified counselor and is required before full licensure. Successful completion ensures the intern is prepared for the responsibilities of an LCDC.

Is 22 too old for an internship?

Lcdc internships are typically designed for students or individuals seeking entry-level experience, and age is generally not a barrier. Many internships welcome applicants of various ages, especially if they are transitioning careers or gaining new skills, such as in digital literacy or computer skills. Age should not prevent someone from pursuing an internship if they meet the program's requirements and are motivated to learn.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an LCDC Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an LCDC (Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor) Intern, you need foundational knowledge of addiction counseling, assessment techniques, and case management, generally supported by enrollment in an accredited counseling program and state registration as an intern. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs) and clinical documentation systems is commonly required. Strong interpersonal skills, active listening, and cultural sensitivity help build trust and rapport with clients. These competencies ensure ethical, effective support for individuals in recovery and contribute to successful treatment outcomes.

How to become an LCDC intern?

To become an LCDC intern, applicants typically need to meet education requirements such as completing relevant coursework in addiction counseling, gain supervised internship hours as part of licensure prerequisites, and submit an application to the appropriate licensing board. Some programs may also require background checks and CPR certification. Internships provide practical experience necessary for licensure as an LCDC.

What are the big 4 internships?
