Job Summary
Persons filling this role will be fabricating, assembling, and welding parts.
Job Scope
This job has recurring work situations with occasional variations from the norm. Welders/Fabricators can expect stressful situations as strict adherence to project deadlines, ship dates, and delivery dates is required. Duties are performed under the direct supervision of the Production Shift Lead and his/her Superiors and, where applicable, using established procedures and guidelines. Errors in accuracy, judgment, service, and a lack of professionalism affects the smooth and efficient operation of the company ultimately impacting the profitability of the company as well as customer satisfaction.
Essential Functions/Major Duties: include but not limited to the following:
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment and a hazard free workplace, free of obstructions and obstacles
• Read and interpret drawings
• Layout, cut, and fit material for welding
• Weld structural members using electric arc welding equipment according to customer specifications
• Perform cutting and hole making operations
• Monitor workmanship and trouble shoot non-conformances
• Perform plasma and oxy/fuel cutting processes
• Fabricate special tools, equipment, fixtures, and jigs
• Weld on stationary and non-stationary items utilizing motorized rollers
• Utilize layout techniques for pipe to place parts on poles for welding
• Work in a safe and careful manner practicing good use of personal protective equipment and exemplary safety when handling or transporting materials
Secondary Functions
• Maintain equipment being used
• Monitor quality and performance of the other welder/fabricators
• Tasks or projects as assigned by the Production Supervisor
Specific Skills
• Excellent knowledge of structural steel shapes, sizes, and material grades
• Fabrication layout
• Welding machine parameter setup and troubleshooting
• AWS D1.1 Visual Acceptance Criteria
• Good oral communication skills
• Good written penmanship and communication skills
• Good math and geometry skills
• Knowledge of equipment related to structural steel fabrication and their uses and limitations

Job Conditions and Physical Demands
• This position may involve repetitive activities, the use of geometry or advanced math, the operation of electric and/or hydraulic cutting and hole making equipment, hand tools, plasma cutters, propane/oxygen torches, and a variety of layout tools
• Work may involve high exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, smoke, welding arcs, sparks, and excessive noise
• Standard for a metal fabrication and welding shop
• Hours may exceed 40 hours per week
