Job Summary
S.A. Comunale Co., Inc. is looking for a Fire Sprinkler Layout Technician to join our growing full-service mechanical and fire protection team. This is a highly specialized role with strong demand across our projects.
We're interested in experienced technicians ready to take on large, complex work. Flexible work arrangements (on-site, hybrid, or remote) and locations are available depending on experience and qualifications.
Work within NFPA, building, and underwritten standards to create and layout fire sprinkler systems with support of the Senior Layout Manager. Collaborate with S.A. Comunale, sales, fabrication and project manager teams while provide excellent customer service as required. Work to achieve annual company objectives and personal performance goals.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Primary duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Consistently and professionally completes all design work in a manner which displays mastery of the following:
  • Ability to complete a sprinkler layout as detailed in most current NFPA standards.
  • Ability to identify the type of hazard and the appropriate protection for it from contract documents
  • Familiarity with a project budget and ability to work within budget.
  • Ability to coordinate work with other trades on complex projects.
  • Ability to understand and resolve coordination problems.
  • Ability to cut and tag, pipe with all appropriate fittings for fabrication and purchasing.
  • Ability to select all required materials for installation.
  • Ability to operate present version of either AutoCAD and Hydratec or AutoSPRINK layout programs
  • Ability to run Navis Works and develop clash reports.
  • Ability to correctly estimate and schedule hours for a project.
  • Ability to meet industry quality standards in producing drawings, hydraulic calculations, material take offs and material submittals for a project.
  • Ability to correctly complete project paperwork for Comunale internal processes, AHJ approval or certification and GC requirements
  • Ability to identify contract work vs. non-contract work and alert appropriate personnel in writing.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and identify potential problems before they manifest.
  • Ability to understand, carry out and communicate about all project tasks.
  • Communicate in face-to-face meetings with customers in a way that provides the company and the customer with accurate, thorough information about a job, and that leaves the customer with a positive impression of our company and our service.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of all applicable fire codes, such as NFPA 13, 14, 20, 22, 24 and others.
  • Must possess ability and motivation to teach Trainees and Junior Designers in mastering all responsibilities listed above.
  • May be responsible for taking on role as project leader and must direct other team members in completing projects efficiently and accurately. As project leader, responsible for giving regular, complete, and professional status reports information to Manager.
  • Works to achieve company's annual objectives and to achieve personal performance goals.
  • Operates at all times in compliance with the company's safety practices.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • 3+ years of fire protection design experience is required.
  • Engineering background is a plus.
  • Mechanical aptitude is required.
  • Proficiency in either Hydratec CAD programs or AutoSPRINK is required.
  • NICET Certification is a plus.
  • Ability to conduct a field survey alone or with others to obtain all proper dimensions and information is required.
  • Ability to travel to job sites by plane or vehicle required.
  • Ability to think strategically, make sound decisions, and produce accurate and timely results is required.
  • Building positive working relationships with multiple levels of employees and management is required.
  • Demonstrating integrity and professionalism is required.
