Job description

MacCorkle Lavender PLLC is looking to hire an attorney with 1+ years of defense litigation experience to join the firm in our Charleston, West Virginia office. MacCorkle Lavender PLLC provides a defense for a myriad of property and personal injury claims, for both businesses and individuals who may be insured or self-insured.

Although we would prefer you have some insurance defense experience, we are also interested in working with developing talented attorneys who come to us with excellent skills in any litigation arena. If you have substantive litigation experience and are looking for an opportunity in a growing, collaborative firm, we invite you to apply.

The ideal candidate is a team player with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn. They must be confident, highly motivated, possess excellent communication skills, and work well in a fast-paced office environment.

SKILLS and ABILITIES
The individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with the following:

RESPONSIBILITIES
Experienced attorneys’ responsibilities include handling a caseload involving substantial litigation defense and may include a variety of practice areas such as construction defect and premises liability. The following requirements are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability necessary to do this job successfully under the direction of a partner:

  • draft, prepare and handle pleadings, motions, orders and legal memoranda;
  • draft and respond to written discovery and dispositive motions;
  • conduct legal research competently and with proficiency;
  • prepare and take depositions of parties and experts;
  • review client documents, draft case evaluations and status report correspondence;
  • review, assess and handle matters from inception to trial;
  • assist with and participate in mediations and court appearances; and,
  • interact directly with clients, claim professionals, opposing counsel, colleagues and staff.

Our Firm provides an experienced support staff, current technology, and ongoing training.
