How much do laser components jobs pay per hour?

As of Sep 4, 2026, the average hourly pay for laser components in the United States is $19.90, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $17.07 and $21.63 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are laser components?

Laser components are the individual parts and materials used to build and operate lasers and laser systems. These components include items such as laser diodes, lenses, mirrors, beam splitters, filters, optical fibers, and power supplies. Each part plays a specific role in generating, shaping, controlling, or delivering laser light for various applications in research, industry, medicine, and communication. Understanding the function of each component is essential for designing and maintaining efficient and reliable laser systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a laser components engineer?

To thrive as a Laser Components Engineer, you typically need a degree in physics, optics, or electrical engineering, with a solid understanding of laser technology and photonics. Familiarity with optical design software (such as Zemax or LightTools), laboratory instrumentation, and safety certifications related to laser use is highly valuable. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication enhance collaboration and innovation in developing precision components. These skills ensure the design, testing, and production of reliable laser components that meet industry standards and client needs.

What are some common challenges faced by engineers working in laser components manufacturing and how can they be addressed?

Engineers in laser components manufacturing often encounter challenges related to maintaining stringent quality standards and precise tolerances, as even minor defects can impact product performance. Coordinating with cross-functional teams—such as design, quality assurance, and production—requires strong communication skills to ensure specifications are met at every stage. Staying updated with rapid technological advancements and regulatory requirements is also essential. Addressing these challenges involves continuous training, adopting robust quality control processes, and fostering a collaborative team environment.
