Mission
At the Laboratory Animal Resource Center (LARC), we are dedicated to providing exceptional animal care which exceeds the needs of Indiana University School of Medicine and its research staff.
Vision
Our vision is top-quality animal care and Principal Investigator (PI) service provided by inspired and valued employees. The field of laboratory animal science has evolved substantially over the past two decades. We understand how the laboratory environment can both positively and negatively affect the results of research projects, and we recognize that an educated and empowered animal care team can be effective in working as an unofficial but critical member of the research team utilizing animal models. The LARC staff has deep experience in laboratory animal care and has achieved various levels of certification in laboratory animal science.
Job Summary
- Work with the quality assurance (QA) department to develop processes and documents that meet regulatory and internal standards
- Manage and continually improve the review process for LARC controlled documents
- Schedule documents for review
- Prepare and distribute content updates
- Finalize documents (including substantive editing, checking cross-references to other documents, and completing accessibility checks)
- Submit documents for approvals
- Archive approved documents
- Update Microsoft Excel-based trackers
- Retire documents, as needed
- Develop and share controlled document metrics and dashboards for ongoing monitoring of the quality management system (QMS)
- Develop and share deviation metrics and dashboards to enable decision making and identify signals/trends
- Develop agendas and lead monthly SOP Leadership Meetings
- Serve as co-owner for SharePoint Online Teams Sites (including managing access and assigning metadata)
- Provide business requirement input into an eQMS, potentially serve as administrator in eQMS, and act as a resource for transitioning the team into an eQMS

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree (preferably in a scientific field)
Required
- 5 years of quality assurance, scientific writing, and project management experience
- Scientific/technical writing experience, preferably in a healthcare/research/academic environment
Required
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, formulas, data models, conditional formatting, dependent drop-down lists, interactive dashboards)
- Intermediate Microsoft Word skills (e.g., styles and templates, collaboration tools)
- Intermediate SharePoint skills (e.g., managing access, customizing views, managing metadata)
- Ability to handle changing priorities and multiple concurrent deadlines while maintaining high-quality final products
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Work Hours
This position is part-time, working 25 hours or less per week.
