How much do landscapers jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 9, 2026, the average hourly pay for landscapers in the United States is $17.63, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $15.38 and $19.23 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is the difference between Landscapers vs Groundskeepers?

AspectLandscapersGroundskeepers
CredentialsMay require horticulture or landscaping certificationsOften need groundskeeping or horticulture knowledge, sometimes certifications
Work EnvironmentWork outdoors on residential, commercial, or public projectsMaintain outdoor areas, including parks, sports fields, and campuses
Employer & IndustryLandscaping companies, nurseries, construction firmsPublic parks, schools, sports facilities, government agencies

While both roles involve outdoor work and plant care, landscapers focus on designing and installing new landscapes, whereas groundskeepers primarily maintain existing outdoor spaces. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path or job search focus.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

Landscapers typically do not earn $10,000 a month without significant experience or business ownership. High earnings in landscaping usually come from owning a successful business, specialized skills, or large-scale projects, rather than entry-level positions. Most landscaping roles pay hourly wages that are below this threshold without additional factors.

What are landscapers?

Landscapers are professionals who design, install, and maintain outdoor spaces such as gardens, lawns, parks, and other green areas. Their work includes planting trees and flowers, mowing lawns, installing irrigation systems, and sometimes constructing features like patios or walkways. Landscapers ensure that outdoor environments are attractive, healthy, and functional for both residential and commercial properties.

What are some common challenges landscapers face when working on large-scale projects?

Landscapers often encounter challenges such as coordinating with multiple contractors, managing tight project deadlines, and adapting to unexpected weather conditions on large-scale projects. Effective communication and flexibility are essential, as plans may need to change quickly to accommodate site conditions or client preferences. Teamwork and strong organizational skills help ensure that tasks like planting, hardscape installation, and irrigation are completed efficiently and to the client's satisfaction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Landscaper, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Landscaper, you need knowledge of horticulture, landscape maintenance techniques, and physical stamina, often supported by a high school diploma or relevant vocational training. Familiarity with landscaping tools, machinery, irrigation systems, and sometimes certifications such as pesticide applicator licenses are common requirements. Attention to detail, teamwork, and strong communication skills help landscapers deliver high-quality results and work efficiently with clients and crews. These abilities ensure safe, attractive, and sustainable outdoor spaces that meet client expectations and industry standards.
