Job description

Position: Landscape Mulch Production Manager – Full Time

Department: Homer Tree Service, Inc. (IN)

Job Summary: The Landscape Mulch Production Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the daily operations at our mulch manufacturing facility in Indianapolis, IN. We are looking for someone who has experience in mulch or related landscape material production, strong leadership skills, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to safety, efficiency and product quality.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the complete mulch production lifecycle, from grinding and screening to coloring and material handling
  • Develop, implement, and monitor production schedules and delivery timelines to meet customer demand
  • Maintain optimal production levels while ensuring production consistency and quality
  • Manage and track inventory of raw materials, finished products, dyes, fuel, equipment parts and any other supplies
  • Supervise, schedule, and train the production staff, equipment operators, and yard staff.
  • Cultivates a high-performance culture rooted in safety, efficiency, and transparent communication and accountability
  • Conduct performance evaluations and coordinate training for team members
  • Oversee daily operations and ensure the proper upkeep and preventative maintenance of equipment, such as grinders, loaders, coloring systems and any other related machinery.
  • Administer the implementation of equipment safety procedures and maintain documentation
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental, safety, and company compliance standards, ensuring facility cleanliness and safe material storage practices
  • Perform regular quality checks on raw materials and finished mulch products
  • Work closely with dispatch, sales, and customer service teams to ensure accurate order fulfillment.
  • Maintain the flow of operations within the yard by coordinating truck loading, delivery schedules, and yard flow.
  • Serves as point of contact to support customers on site as needed

Qualifications & Abilities:

  • 5+ years of experience in mulch production, landscape materials, or related heavy manufacturing.
  • Valid driver’s license, CDL preferred
  • Clean driving record with no moving violations
  • Clean background check and drug test
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work on uneven terrain
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Understanding of all maintenance sections of the FMCSA and OSHA regulations
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.
  • Strong equipment knowledge of industrial equipment operations and maintenance, including grinders, loaders, conveyors, and various production machinery
  • Proficient leadership and team management capabilities
  • Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills and the ability to exhibit decisive leadership in critical situations, ensuring effective and timely solutions
  • Mechanical proficiency and experience in overseeing repairs on heavy equipment and coordinating with technicians.
