Job description

Job Summary

The Landfill Gas Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of landfill gas collection and control systems at the facility ensuring safe and efficient landfill gas capture.  The technician will work to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards.

 

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.  

  • Conduct routine and non-routine landfill gas field monitoring and maintenance activities
  • Wellfield Tuning - Adjust wellhead valves to balance vacuum and gas composition, ensuring optimal methane (CH4) levels for energy use (an energy project will be going online) or flare
  • Field Monitoring -  Conduct routine and non-routine inspections, take gas readings (CH4, CO2, O2, temperature), and monitor for leaks or abnormal conditions 
  • Operate and maintain landfill gas collection system
  • Perform system adjustments and repairs as necessary to maximize gas collection
  • Install, maintain, and calibrate gas monitoring equipment
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and emission standards
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and correct landfill gas collection and control system issues
  • Perform data collection and record keeping tasks related to the landfill gas system
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment
  • Assist with environmental compliance reporting and documentation
  • Cooperate with consultants and regulatory agencies during site inspections and audits

III. Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

 

 

IV. Qualifications
Education and Experience

  • Prior landfill gas technician experience and / or landfill operations experience.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED (accredited).
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a earth sciences is preferred

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

  • OSHA 40 hour training is preferred
  • None required
