Job description

The Employee shall serve as a Clinical Technical Supervisor,  responsible for: 
  • Overseeing daily laboratory operations and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements (CLIA, CAP, state regulations)
  • Managing laboratory staff, including hiring, training, scheduling and performance evaluations, under supervision and approval of Nicole Chorvat
  • Implementing and maintaining quality control and quality assurance programs
  • Managing laboratory budget, inventory, and vendor relationships
  • Collaborating with medical directors and other healthcare professionals 
  • Ensuring accurate and timely test results and excellent customer service
  • Processes incoming specimens to prepare for testing.
  • Performs and documents quality control and
instrument maintenance.
  • Troubleshoots quality control and instrument issues. Monitors
laboratory environmental parameters (temperature and humidity) and documents as required.
  • Communicate effectively with laboratory staff and all external customers.

Required Skills and Experience
• Bachelor of Science
• Basic knowledge of Windows Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
• Basic knowledge of data/result entry
• Ability to approach problems/decisions analytically
• Ability to perform and document quality control and instrument maintenance
• Experience with, or ability to learn, operations for instrumentation utilized and other functions related
to the production of diagnostic patient results after training
• Excellent communication and verbal skills
• Ability to prioritize workload, multi-task, and interact effectively with all levels of staff, management,
and healthcare providers (physicians, advanced practitioners, and nurses)
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
Preferred Skills and Experiences
• A.S. in Clinical Laboratory Science acceptable
• B.S. in Laboratory Science preferred
• Ability to construct reports or summaries of laboratory data as needed
• 2+ years clinical laboratory experience
Technical Essential Job Responsibilities
• Prepare specimens for molecular testing
• Perform PCR testing and report results
• Perform QC and evaluate acceptability before testing/reporting patient results
• Perform manual and computerized data entry to accession specimens and maintain logs and recording
• Prepare and maintain all necessary reagents
• Maintain laboratory instrumentation/equipment
• Document QC, instrument/equipment maintenance, and other laboratory records
• Assist with answering phones, responding to emails, and other administrative duties
• Other miscellaneous duties as assigned by Laboratory Manager
Knowledge
• Principles and techniques of clinical laboratory testing
• Laboratory regulations, including quality control, lab safety, lab documentation requirements, and lab
instrumentation in general
Skills
• Use of computers for database management, testing, record keeping, etc.
• Time management
• Prioritization of testing and other assigned tasks
• Multi-task and work with minimal supervision
• Interpersonal and communication skills
Abilities
• Communicate effectively and appropriately (orally and written)
