Technical Supervisor / Laboratory Consultant
Location: California (Travel to Client Laboratory Sites Required)
Schedule: Full-Time | Day Shift
Lighthouse Lab Services is seeking an experienced Technical Supervisor / Laboratory Consultant to support and oversee high-complexity clinical laboratory operations across multiple client laboratory sites.
This unique role combines the responsibilities of a Technical Supervisor, General Supervisor, Testing Personnel, and Technical Consultant under CLIA regulations. The ideal candidate will provide hands-on technical oversight, perform and review high-complexity testing, support laboratory quality systems, and partner with Laboratory Directors and client leadership teams to ensure regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
This position is ideal for a laboratory professional who enjoys a mix of bench work, quality oversight, troubleshooting, consulting, and laboratory leadership.
What You'll Do:
Technical Oversight:
  • Serve as Technical Supervisor and Technical Consultant for assigned laboratories
  • Establish, verify, and monitor test methods and performance characteristics
  • Oversee quality control, quality assessment, proficiency testing, and corrective action programs
  • Investigate and resolve technical issues affecting test performance and result integrity
  • Ensure laboratory testing systems consistently meet CLIA and accreditation requirements
  • Provide technical guidance and consultation to laboratory personnel and leadership
Laboratory Operations + Leadership
  • Support daily laboratory operations across multiple client sites
  • Monitor workflow, turnaround times, staffing needs, and operational performance
  • Partner with Laboratory Directors and site leadership to identify process improvements
  • Assist with inventory management, supply coordination, and operational problem-solving
  • Support laboratory start-ups, test launches, validations, and implementation projects
Testing & Data Review
  • Perform high-complexity testing utilizing LC/MS, EIA, and related laboratory platforms
  • Review analytical data, instrument performance, calibrations, and quality metrics
  • Verify and release laboratory results in accordance with established procedures
  • Ensure proper specimen handling, testing documentation, and regulatory compliance
  • Maintain instrument maintenance, calibration, and quality records
Quality & Compliance
  • Maintain compliance with CLIA, CAP, HIPAA, and applicable state and federal regulations
  • Oversee personnel training, competency assessments, and ongoing technical development
  • Ensure SOPs, policies, and laboratory documentation remain current and compliant
  • Participate in inspections, audits, proficiency testing reviews, and accreditation activities
  • Promote a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement
What You'll Bring:
  • Candidates must meet CLIA requirements for a High-Complexity Technical Supervisor with one of the following:
    • Doctoral degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science and at least 1 year of high-complexity laboratory experience
    • Master's degree and at least 2 years of high-complexity laboratory experience
    • Bachelor's degree and at least 4 years of high-complexity laboratory experience
  • Active California CLS License
  • Experience working in high-complexity clinical laboratory environments
  • Strong understanding of CLIA regulations and laboratory quality systems
  • Experience with LC/MS instrumentation and data review preferred
  • Experience supporting inspections, validations, proficiency testing, and quality programs
  • Ability to travel between client laboratory sites as needed
  • Strong troubleshooting and technical problem-solving abilities
  • Experience supporting multiple laboratory locations or client sites
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Strong organizational and project management capabilities
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, highly regulated laboratory environments
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality
