Technical Director / Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Ceramist & Digital Dental Solutions

Location: Relocation Assistance Available

Salary: $85,000–$110,000 annually (commensurate with experience)

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Technical Director / Subject Matter Expert (SME) with a strong background as a Certified Dental Ceramist and expertise in esthetic restorative dentistry. This leadership role is ideal for a technical expert who combines exceptional hands-on laboratory knowledge with operational leadership, business acumen, and product development experience.

The ideal candidate will serve as the technical authority for our restorative product line, helping develop innovative workflows, establish standardized processes, create technical training materials, and support the successful implementation of new materials and technologies across our organization and customer base.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the company's technical expert for ceramic and esthetic restorative products.
  • Lead the development and implementation of standardized laboratory workflows and best practices.
  • Develop technical documentation, protocols, educational materials, and training programs for internal teams and customers.
  • Collaborate with Research & Development, Product Management, Sales, and Marketing on new product launches.
  • Evaluate emerging dental materials, technologies, and digital workflows to support product innovation.
  • Create and optimize manufacturing and laboratory processes to improve efficiency, consistency, and quality.
  • Provide technical consultation and troubleshooting for customers and internal teams.
  • Conduct hands-on demonstrations, presentations, and continuing education programs.
  • Support operational initiatives to improve productivity and quality systems.
  • Build relationships with key opinion leaders, laboratories, and clinicians.
  • Travel as needed for customer support, training, trade shows, and industry events.

Qualifications

  • Certified Dental Technician (CDT) preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive dental laboratory experience.
  • Extensive experience in ceramic restorations and esthetic dentistry.
  • Advanced knowledge of Crown & Bridge, implant restorations, and digital workflows.
  • Strong CAD/CAM and digital dentistry experience.
  • Experience developing laboratory workflows and standardized operating procedures.
  • Demonstrated understanding of dental laboratory operations and business processes.
  • Experience creating educational content, technical manuals, or training programs.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven leadership and project management abilities.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with technical, commercial, and operational teams.
  • Must have worked as a Ceramist at the bench and understands esthetics and how to make the line better

Preferred Experience

  • Product development or materials evaluation experience.
  • Experience with zirconia, lithium disilicate, layered ceramics, and implant prosthetics.
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing (3D printing) and digital manufacturing workflows.
  • Experience supporting commercial teams or serving as a technical consultant.
  • Previous management or laboratory leadership experience.
