Job Summary
A General Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision or oversight of laboratory testing operations and personnel performing high complexity testing.

Clinical Competencies
- Demonstrates clinical competencies necessary to perform and analyze a variety of laboratory test/procedures.
Prepares reagents, standards, and controls according to prescribed procedures
- Prepares reagents, standards, and controls according to prescribed procedures.
Test Analysis
- Performs test analysis in a timely and accurate manner.
Maintains Instruments
- Calibrates, standardizes and maintains instruments in accordance with established procedures.
Quality Control
- Performs quality control procedures to ensure proper functioning of instruments, reagents and procedures.
Test Results
- Validates and reports test results.
Adheres to policies and procedures
- Adheres to hospital, departmental, and personnel policies and procedures; adheres to laboratory and hospital safety policies and procedures.
Teamwork
- Contributes to the teamwork, quality improvement and productivity of the department.
Computer Skills
- Exhibits computer skills needed for daily operation of the laboratory and hospital information systems.
Communication
- Communicates with patients, staff and visitors in a courteous, service-oriented manner; Promotes teamwork within the department and hospital. Maintain good communication with all divisions of Clinical Pathology and meets personnel needs within the areas of the incumbent's authority.
Supervisor Personnel Duties
- Performs supervisory personnel duties as directed, to include performance evaluations, counseling, interviews, and recommends hiring action to the Director of Laboratory Services. Assist in training new associates in the lab.

Qualifications
Education
- Required
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology equivalent
- Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Science
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology
Experience:
- Required
- Two years of experience a Clinical Laboratory
- Preferred
- One year of experience as a Supervisor
Certification/Licensure:
- Required
- Medical Lab Technician/Clinical Lab Technician
- Preferred
- Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Scientist
ASCP Board of Registry or equivalent
