Job Title: Laboratory Services Assistant

Department: Ancillary Laboratory (Clinic Based)

Reports To: General Supervisor/Account Manager

JOB SUMMARY

The Laboratory Services Assistant is responsible for specimen collection, acquiring patient identification and insurance information, entering patient demographics, insurance information and Lab orders into the system.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing and maintain patient records.

2. Adhere to the laboratory’s collection and safety policies.

3. Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect sample integrity or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director

4. Understand and adhere to HIPAA policies, procedures and regulations to assure patient confidentiality.

5. Work with other co-workers or independently to ensure completion of all tasks.

6. Store and inventory collection supplies and recognize needs for additional supplies.

7. Organize and maintain some clerical work with patient and sample records.

8. Administrative duties including excellent customer service to all patients, clients and employees.

9. Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Review and fully comprehend the standard operating procedure for Specimen Collection-Urine. Previous laboratory, phlebotomy, medical assisting or certified nursing assistant experience is a plus.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Typically Stands for extended period of times
  • Lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Wearing appropriate protective gear: Lab coat, gloves, goggles (optional) and adhering to the Occupational Health and Safety (OSHA) Regulations.

POTENTIAL ON-THE-JOB RISKS:
