Job description

Interpath Laboratory is seeking an experienced Scientist in Histotechnology (HTL) to join our surgical pathology team in our state-of-the-art anatomic pathology laboratory in Omaha, NE. This role will include grossing approved specimens and processing non-GYN and GYN cytology samples in a reference laboratory environment.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing, collaborative, and quality-driven laboratory team focused on providing high-quality patient care and timely results.
Schedule
  • PRN weekend coverage, preferably Sundays
  • Approximately 4-8 hours per week
  • No routine or guaranteed schedule
  • Hours may vary based on department needs
  • Primarily responsible for processing early weekend histology samples to help reduce TAT

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with coursework meeting CLIA high complexity requirements.
  • HTL (ASCP) or HT (ASCP) certification or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior experience in surgical pathology or reference laboratory histology.
  • Demonstrated competency in surgical pathology grossing activities.
  • Experience with GYN and non-GYN cytology techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.

What You'll Do
  • Perform gross examination and dissection of approved surgical pathology specimens in accordance with established protocols.
  • Perform tissue processing on Sakura VIP 6 processors.
  • Process GYN and non-GYN samples using Hologic cytology systems and Sakura Prisma platforms.
  • Embed tissue, perform microtomy using Leica microtomes, and support routine histology workflows.
  • Perform H&E staining on Sakura Prisma platforms.
  • Perform special stains and immunohistochemistry (IHC) on Roche BenchMark ULTRA PLUS and BenchMark Special Stains platforms.
  • Accession specimens and maintain accurate documentation within the laboratory information system.
  • Perform digital slide scanning using Leica imaging systems.
  • Support cytology workflows utilizing the Hologic Genius Imaging System.
  • Conduct routine quality control, basic troubleshooting, and instrument maintenance.
  • Prepare reagents, manage inventory, and maintain documentation.
  • Adhere to CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and HIPAA requirements.

General Physical Requirements
  • Regularly exposed to infection by handling potentially infectious samples.
  • Typically Stands for extended period of times.
  • Lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Mobility to climb stairs on a regular basis.
  • Wearing appropriate protective gear: Lab coat, gloves, goggles, and face shield.
  • This position performs tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids and/or tissues. All employees performing these duties are offered the opportunity to receive the Hepatitis-B vaccination series.
