ABOUT
The Part-Time Interpreter/Captionist is a part-time position responsible to the Coordinator, Hearing Loss Services and Director, Disability Services.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Providing sign language interpreting/transliterating services for classroom, laboratory and other Tyler Junior College activities as assigned
  • Supporting Captioning Work as needed
  • Accepting regular and/or substitute disability accommodations assignments as necessary
  • Providing office support including but not limited to: record keeping, filing, copying, faxing, Access data base management, Excel reporting and other computer based activities
  • Assisting with scheduling and dispatching interpreter assignments
  • Communicating effectively with Deaf/HoH publics of the College
  • Assisting Interpreter/Coordinator in creating an atmosphere of cordiality and service for staff, program participants and other publics of the College
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Interpreter/Coordinator and Director of Disabilities

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strictly adhere to RID/BEI CPC (Code of Professional Conduct for Interpreters)
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in person, and by email, in addition to engaging in general telephone/Videophone (VRS). assistance
  • Excellent human relations skills required
  • Must be able to be an independent problem solver, respect confidentiality and maintain courtesy in dealing with students, faculty, staff and visitors
  • Must be available for morning/afternoon/night/weekend flexible scheduling
  • Detail-oriented work habits and ability to meet required deadlines

WHO YOU ARE
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Sign language interpreter with certification or degree
  • Captioning experience
  • Post-secondary interpreting experience

Part-Time Retirement

Part-time employees are required to participate in the part-time retirement fund. The retirement fund is invested in a group fixed annuity contract with Ohio National Life Insurance Company.
