What you'll be doing
The Asphalt Laborer will join our operations team and support our paving, sealcoating, striping, and concrete teams. This role involves performing physical labor on parking lots, including removing deteriorated asphalt through saw cutting, replacing it with new Hot Mix Asphalt, and finishing the surface by shoveling and spreading to grade. The Laborer will also assist with catch basin repairs, bollard installations, and other maintenance projects assigned by the Foreman or Team Lead. In addition, the Laborer will inspect and maintain equipment, including tires, lights, brakes, and oil, and perform minor repairs as directed by the Foreman.
You will be responsible for...
• Perform physical labor on commercial patching and paving projects, including saw cutting, asphalt removal, and base compaction when necessary.
• Assist in the offloading and placement of asphalt material, spreading, shoveling, and tamping to achieve the desired grade.
• Clear roads and pathways of debris, ensuring a safe and clean work environment.
• Assist with traffic control to prevent disruption to work zones and ensure safety.
• Measure paving areas to verify compliance with project specifications.
• Operate hand tools and equipment to support the paving process, including raking and smoothing asphalt.
• Monitor job site safety and enforce proper signage and traffic management.
• Review and follow equipment operations manuals, ensuring safe and efficient use of tools and machinery.
• Assist the Foreman and Team Lead with project assignments and job site cleanup.
• Participate in bi-weekly safety meetings and on-the-job safety briefings.
• Maintain and organize tools and equipment, ensuring they are accounted for and in good working condition.
• Drive trucks to transport materials and equipment as needed, assisting in the maintenance of all equipment.
• Report any accidents or incidents to the Foreman or Superintendent and follow company safety procedures.
• Perform additional tasks and special projects as assigned by the Foreman or Superintendent to support workflow and meet deadlines.
• Ensure the job site is cleared of equipment and machinery upon work completion.
• Adhere to all company policies and Standard Operating Procedures while maintaining a professional and ethical work environment.
What skills & experience you'll bring to us
• High school diploma or equivalent required; 1-2 years of related experience, or equivalent education and experience.
• Valid driver's license required (Class A CDL preferred or must be obtained within six months of hire).
• Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and work under pressure in outdoor conditions.
• Detail-oriented with experience using production tools and equipment, and a solid understanding of the paving process.
• Capable of working independently or as part of a team, with effective communication across all levels.
• Physically able to perform labor-intensive tasks (lifting to 60 lbs., bending, digging, climbing) and working in varied weather conditions.
• Experience with hand/power tools and heavy/small engine equipment, and able to tolerate exposure to environmental factors.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including extended hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Basic understanding of Rose Paving's services, including asphalt and concrete repairs, Crack sealing, Sealcoating, Catch Basin Repair, and Parking Lot Marking.
• Strong math skills for calculations (measurements, weights, area, volume).
