We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Crew Foreman to lead our underground utilities crew, specializing in the installation, repair, and maintenance of municipal sewer and water infrastructure on civil sitework projects. The Foreman will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination, supervision, and execution of all underground piping work, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise in heavy civil construction, and an unwavering commitment to safety.
Key Responsibilities
  • Supervision & Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of crew members (operators, pipe layers, laborers). Assign tasks, set daily goals, and maintain a productive, high-morale work environment.
  • Safety & Compliance: Enforce all company, state, and federal safety regulations, with specific attention to trenching and excavation safety (OSHA standards), confined space entry, and traffic control. Conduct daily Job Safety Analysis (JSAs) and tool-box talks.
  • Project Execution: Oversee and personally participate in the installation of all underground utilities, including:
    • Sanitary sewer mains, laterals, manholes, and lift stations.
    • Storm sewer systems, catch basins, and drainage structures.
    • Potable water mains, fire lines, hydrants, and service connections.
  • Technical Expertise: Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and specifications to ensure accurate utility installation, grade control, and alignment.
  • Equipment Management: Coordinate the use of heavy equipment (excavators, backhoes, dozers) and ensure proper operation, maintenance, and staging.
  • Material & Resource Management: Track and manage materials, equipment, and labor resources. Coordinate deliveries and ensure the correct materials are on site when needed.
  • Quality Control: Perform regular inspections of work in progress and completed work to ensure conformance with engineering specifications and local codes.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate daily logs, progress reports, time cards, and safety documentation. Communicate project status, issues, and change orders to the Project Manager.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in civil sitework/heavy construction.
  • 3+ years of proven experience as a Crew Foreman or Lead Pipe Layer specializing in underground utility installation (sewer, water, and storm drain).
  • Expert knowledge of pipe laying techniques for various materials (PVC, Ductile Iron, HDPE, concrete) and joint types.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, and surveying stakes/data

  • Certifications in Competent Person for Excavations/Trenching,Confined Space Entry and OSHA 30 are highly preferred.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills.
  • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
  • Ability to stand, walk, and use hands to handle, or feel for extended periods.
