Job description

Job Title: Labeling Specialist – Asian Product Category

Job Description

The Labeling Specialist oversees label compliance for the Asian product category, ensuring all packaging and product information meet FDA and USDA requirements, as well as import and export regulations. This role serves as the subject matter expert for product claims and regulatory questions, supports global labeling compliance, and partners closely with cross-functional teams to drive timely and accurate product launches. The specialist uses Product Vision (or similar software) to create and manage labels, nutrition facts panels, and raw material information, while supporting regulatory decision-making across multiple product categories and import pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Own label compliance for the Asian product category, ensuring all product labels meet applicable regulatory standards.
  • Review and approve product labels for compliance with FDA and USDA labeling regulations.
  • Validate ingredient statements, product claims, and nutrition facts panels for accuracy and regulatory alignment.
  • Act as the primary expert and go-to resource for product claims and regulatory questions within the assigned category.
  • Support import and export labeling compliance for products shipped to Canada, Mexico, and other global affiliates.
  • Handle import and export regulatory requirements and documentation for multiple regions, including North America and other international markets.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Research and Development, Quality Assurance, and Marketing teams to support product development, launches, and label approvals.
  • Utilize Product Vision (or Genesis) to generate nutrition facts panels, ingredient specifications, and labels, and to house information for raw materials.
  • Support product importing and exporting activities by ensuring labels and documentation align with regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to regulatory decision-making by confidently interpreting regulations and providing clear guidance, rather than only researching answers.
  • Assist with regulatory submissions and documentation as needed for various product categories and markets.
  • Support multiple product categories and import pipelines, maintaining consistency and compliance across all assigned products.

Essential Skills

  • 6–8 years of regulatory and labeling experience in the food and/or beverage industry.
  • Proven experience with FDA labeling regulations for food products.
  • Proven experience with USDA labeling regulations, including familiarity with relevant submission requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience with import and export regulatory requirements; FDA, USDA, and import/export experience are all required.
  • Ability to confidently interpret and answer technical regulatory questions, not solely rely on looking up information.
  • Regulatory familiarity with imports and exports, with experience related to Mexico and Canada preferred.
  • Experience generating and reviewing nutrition facts panels for compliance and accuracy.
  • Experience working in or closely with Research and Development and Quality functions in a food manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Product Vision software is a strong plus; experience with Genesis or similar labeling software is also beneficial.
  • Regulatory experience with European Union, Asia-Pacific, and South American markets is a plus.
  • Experience with PDCAAS (protein digestibility) calculations is a significant advantage.
  • Prop 65 regulatory experience is a strong plus.
  • Experience supporting multiple product categories and complex import pipelines is highly beneficial.
  • Experience in food manufacturing environments, with exposure to cross-functional teams such as R&D, QA, and Marketing.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing labels, claims, and ingredient information.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and communicate regulatory requirements clearly and effectively.

Work Environment

The role operates within a collaborative regulatory team that includes analysts focused on specific product categories, a raw material specialist, and a USDA submission specialist. The position is category-based, with this role dedicated to the Asian product category. The work schedule typically follows a standard 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. day, with flexibility to start as early as 6:30 a.m. and complete an eight-hour workday; the latest start time is 9:00 a.m. The employer offers a hybrid work model for individuals located in Southern California, who are encouraged to work in the office 1–2 days per week, while candidates outside the area may work remotely. In-office dress is business casual. The company provides all necessary equipment, including a computer. The organization offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes a bonus program, flexible spending account, pet insurance, health and mental health benefits, and a 401(k) plan. Team members have the opportunity to learn from colleagues with many years of combined regulatory experience and to grow their expertise in a dynamic, ever-evolving regulatory environment
