Summary/Objective
The Simulation and Lab Assistant provides administrative, operational, and technical leadership for healthcare simulation and skills laboratory activities at the Mercy College of Health Professions. This role coordinates simulation and lab operations, manages resources and environments, and exercises independent judgment and discretion to ensure simulation and skills lab experiences align with course objectives, program outcomes, accreditation expectations, and institutional standards.
The Assistant works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators to support high-quality experiential learning and continuous improvement of simulation and laboratory programming.
Essential Job Duties
Simulation & Learning Activity Support
  • Coordinate the preparation and execution of simulation scenarios, including manikins, task trainers, moulage, clinical equipment, simulated medications, documentation tools, and instructional technology
  • Exercise discretion in planning, prioritizing, and adjusting simulation and lab activities to meet instructional and operational needs
  • Ensure simulation and lab equipment is functional, appropriately staged, and maintained to promote safe, realistic learning environments
  • Collaborate with faculty to align simulation and lab activities with course objectives, learner outcomes, and best practices
  • Provide on-site coordination and technical support during simulation and laboratory activities, including troubleshooting and flow management
  • Support adherence to simulation standards, safety requirements, and institutional policies
Resource and Space Management
  • Manage and coordinate the organization, utilization, and maintenance of simulation and skills lab resources, including equipment, technology, and consumable supplies
  • Coordinate scheduling and utilization of simulation and laboratory spaces to ensure efficient program support
  • Oversee inventory systems, ordering processes, and supply tracking in alignment with budgetary guidelines
  • Monitor equipment condition and independently coordinate maintenance, repairs, or replacement as appropriate
  • Ensure simulation and lab environments remain organized, clean, and compliant with safety and infection control standards
Operational & Administrative Support
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to simulation operations, equipment tracking, and lab usage
  • Support faculty and program leadership with preparation for competency assessments, skill check-offs, evaluations, and special labs
  • Assist with maintaining compliance with accreditation, regulatory, and programmatic requirements related to simulation and skills laboratories
  • Generate reports, recommendations, and operational feedback to support program planning and improvement
  • Coordinate simulation support for special events, program activities, and campus initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor that support program and institutional objectives

Required
  • Associate degree in healthcare, education, science, or a related field OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Experience coordinating operational, administrative, or technical activities in an educational, healthcare, or simulation environment

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and manage multiple priorities
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with faculty, staff, and students
  • Proficiency with computer systems and ability to learn simulation-related and instructional technology
Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare, education, science, or a related field
  • Experience working in healthcare simulation or skills laboratory environments
  • Familiarity with healthcare equipment, clinical workflows, or accreditation standards
  • Experience supporting academic programs, faculty, or experiential learning initiatives
Work Environment
  • Primarily works in simulation and skills laboratory settings
  • Regular exposure to clinical equipment and simulated healthcare environments
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support instructional needs
