What to Expect

Tesla is looking for a Lab Supervisor to support the manufacture of powertrain products at Gigafactory Nevada in Sparks. This role includes organization of routine work, training, facilities management, and providing technical guidance for quality testing in a multi-discipline lab space. This role works closely with Operations, Manufacturing and Quality Engineering teams to provide results that maintain product yield at the highest standards of safety and quality.

What You'll Do
  • Facilitate 24x7 laboratory operations for quality and engineering, including equipment maintenance, calibration, and environmental monitoring
  • Manage lab sample workflow, access training, and process development to ensure timely, accurate measurement, evaluation, and analytical services
  • Support lab safety and chemical hygiene practices, enforcing safety protocols for all team members and visitors
  • Supervise and provide training and technical assistance to laboratory technicians to ensure adherence to established testing procedures
  • Oversee a team performing routine quality testing and high-priority response projects, driving operational improvements
  • Develop, update, and train lab staff on standard operating procedures and test methods in alignment with quality system practices
  • Tesla people leaders are responsible for a variety of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) assurance functions, including ensuring their teams' safety training is current, documenting EHS incidents, proactively correcting workplace hazards in the areas, and empowering others to continuously improve operations

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Physical Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or Materials Science or equivalent experience
  • Ability to manage a group of lab-technicians with diversified seniority levels
  • Ability to work through ambiguity
  • Support a cross-functional engineering team in a lab environment
  • Previous operation and experience with any of these equipment/techniques is a plus: SEM/EDX, DSC, XRF, metallography, Instron mechanical test systems, GCMS, OES (Spark or ICP), IC, or FT-IR
  • Able to work well under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
  • 24 hour support of the factory is expected
